At that moment Mark sat up straighter, giving her his full attention. "Five things. Okay. I'm listening."
She held up her hand, spreading her fingers. "Number one," she said, wagging her finger, "You must not make Mommy cry. Ever. Not even one tiny tears. If Mommy cries because of you…" she squinted her eyes and pointed firmly, "I will unlove you."
Mark's heart squeezed. "Never. I promise. I'll protect her."
Evelyn gave a short nod. "Good. Number two. Whenever I call you, you must answer your phone. If I call two times and you don't pick up, I will be angry. And if I say I want to see you, you have to come."
"I will always come," Mark replied quickly.
"Number three," she said, placing her hands on her hips now. "You have to do anything I ask except bad things. Like if I say get me a chocolate cake, you get me the cake. If I say don't go to work today, you stay. If I say I want a pink castle, you build it."
Mark chuckled softly. "Alright, pink castle. Noted."
