Chapter 66 – The Serpent's Whisper
Elaria's POV
The hall smelled of smoke and sweat. And the memory of dried blood felt like a far memory away. I sat perfectly still with my chin lifted and eyes half-closed as if the chaos around me were beneath my notice. But deep inside, every whisper scraped against my skull like a dull, uneven blade.
Aisla.
They said her name like it was salvation. Like she was a prayer answered in the darkest hour.
I wanted to claw their throats open just to hear them choke on it.
The girl who once served food in this very hall now lived in their hearts like an idol. My future had been carved sharp and bright, my Luna crown waiting, my throne promised. Until she returned from the shadows with silver light dripping from her hands and roots piercing the ground at her command.
She should have remained gone. She should have bled out in the dirt where she belonged.
But no. The Moon Goddess had a cruel sense of humour.
