Chapter 39 - The Awakening

Aisla's POV

The first thing I knew was pain.

A deep ache in my bones and a fire in my throat. Every breath I took felt like a broken glass was scraped through my chest. My arm felt heavy, and when I turned, I saw they were bound in herbs and charms.

 

The second thing I knew was silence.

No pack voices. No triplets arguing.

 No whispers about curses and prophecies. All I could hear was the sound of water running nearby, wind stirring leaves and Mora's low voice humming words I could not understand.

I tried to sit up, but the world around me wobbled. I was lying inside the stone circle, and the air was heavy with incense and ash. Mora sat at my side with her staff laid across her knees. She watched me with those sharp eyes as I tried to sit up again.

"You are awake," she said simply.

I tried to speak, but my throat cracked. My lips formed the question anyway: "Where…?"

"The grove," she answered. "You are safe, for now."

The memories came flowing then.
