Jade, in a rare show of tact, doesn't say anything on the drive to his apartment. Noel stares unseeingly out the window the entire time, picking at his fingernails.
As soon as they get inside, a delicious scent washes over them.
"Jacqueline left dinner," Jade says, shrugging his jacket off and leaving his keys on the key rack. "Come on."
Noel picks at his food, stomach still in knots, but manages to force down about half of it, offering the rest to Jade, who frowns but eats it anyway. Once the dishes are put away, Noel starts to head upstairs, but then he remembers something.
"Why did you text me earlier?" he asks Jade, who's trailing him out of the kitchen. "Did you need something?"
"Oh, I—uh—" Jade rubs the back of his neck, looking uncharacteristically wrong-footed. "That's…I wanted to—hey, what happened?" he asks, obviously changing the topic. "What did your dad want?"
