I stared at Phoebe, processing her words. The moonlight streaming through the window cast shadows across her face, highlighting the serious expression that had replaced her earlier embarrassment.
"If the handlers don't know who placed the bounty, then what options do we have?" I asked.
Phoebe stood and moved to her laptop bag, pulling out a sleek black device I hadn't seen before. "There is one way, but it's extremely dangerous."
"Tell me."
"We make you so feared that no one will dare accept contracts on you." She opened the laptop and began typing rapidly. "The Dark Network has a ranking system for targets based on how dangerous they are to approach."
The screen came to life, showing what looked like a sophisticated forum with encrypted messaging systems. My eyes widened as I saw lists of names, photographs, and dollar amounts that made my head spin.
"This is the Dark Network?"
