The next morning arrived with promising developments. Evelyn had immediately taken to Phoebe during their first day working together at Hua Mei Biomedical.
"She's absolutely brilliant," Evelyn told me over dinner, her eyes bright with enthusiasm. "Did you know she speaks four languages fluently? Mandarin, English, Japanese, and Korean. And she graduated summa cum laude from Beijing University with a double major in business administration and international relations."
I nearly choked on my water. Phoebe hadn't mentioned any of this background during our brief conversation. The woman was full of surprises.
"That's impressive," I managed.
"Impressive? It's incredible. She's overqualified for basic administrative work." Evelyn leaned forward excitedly. "I'm thinking of making her my personal assistant instead. She handled three different client calls today, switching between languages seamlessly."
