Freya's POV
Jasper's confusion was almost pathetic to watch. His mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water, trying to process Katie's words.
"I don't understand what you're implying."
"Of course you don't." Katie's voice dripped with disdain. "You're too busy playing the noble martyr to see what Lila really thinks of you."
I remained silent, watching this confrontation unfold. Part of me wanted to stop Katie, to end this painful display, but another part needed to hear whatever truth she was about to reveal.
"Lila loves me," Jasper said, but his voice lacked conviction.
"Does she?" Katie tilted her head. "My aunt is a department head at Central Hospital. She's been taking care of terminal patients for over twenty years."
Jasper's face went pale. "What does your aunt have to do with anything?"
"Everything." Katie's smile turned sharp. "She overheard a very interesting conversation between Lila and her mother yesterday."
