Freya's POV
The phone rang just as I was settling into bed, and Cecilia Felix's desperate voice pierced through the speaker before I could even say hello.
"Freya, you have to help us. Waylon is in the hospital and he's not going to make it."
My guard went up instantly. "Where exactly are you? Last I heard, he was being questioned by police about the Tristan Family mess."
"He collapsed right after they released him. The stress from Neil's arrest, it was too much." Her voice cracked with hysteria. "That monster Jasper Tristan destroyed Neil's life, and now your father is paying the price."
I understood immediately. Neil Colby had been charged with espionage, which was no joke in anyone's book. Waylon Colby only had one son, so naturally he'd been running around trying to fix the situation. But the Colby Family was broke, and nobody wanted to stick their neck out for a has-been.
The constant rejection and stress had finally caught up with him.
