Freya's POV
My legs felt steady enough now to climb into the car without assistance. Once Mack settled beside me, I finally found the courage to confront him.
"What were you thinking showing up like that? I specifically told you to stay out of this mess. You could have made everything worse."
Mack gave the driver directions to the Marlborough before turning his attention back to me.
"I had some business to handle this morning. When I finished, I realized you'd be wrapping up your court appearance soon. I wanted to check on you, maybe grab lunch together afterward. But the second I arrived, I saw those Tristan Family vultures circling you like prey. Your legs aren't completely healed yet. If they had gotten physical, you could have suffered permanent damage. I couldn't just stand there and watch."
His explanation made sense, but it didn't ease my anxiety about the consequences.
