Kai's POV
Kai Sterling felt like his chest was on fire.
He sat in the big meeting room with all his pack members, trying to pay attention to the monthly reports. But something was very wrong inside his body. His heart was beating too fast, then too slow. His hands were shaking, and he couldn't catch his breath.
"Alpha?" Beta James looked worried. "Are you okay?"
Kai tried to answer, but his tongue felt thick and heavy. The room started spinning around him like a circus ride. All the faces of his pack members became fuzzy.
What was happening to him?
Then he remembered. The wine at dinner. Victoria pouring it with that strange smile on her face. The way she watched him drink every drop.
Victoria poisoned me.
The truth hit Kai like a punch to the gut. His own wife had tried to kill him. And he'd been stupid enough to trust her one last time.
"Call... call the pack doctor," Kai managed to whisper before his legs gave out totally.
