Chapter 9 - Chapter IX: The Burning Mansion

This Succubus-type infernal is powerful on its own but— it cannot activate its power to a frenzied creature so the thing it can do at the moment is escape but Lucas is famished and he lunged at it, pinning it to the ground.

The Succubus -like infernal felt terror, seeing Lucas in his feral state. He bared his teeth and sink them to its neck. Lucas ripped its flesh and enjoyed devouring, hearing its painful cries.

Later ...

Lucas had finished feasting on the infernal but his stomach still growling. He look back and he smiled. "What a bloody mess." He blurted. "The more I give in to my hunger, the more it crave. Is it my stomach or— I've become numb at my disgust and crave for more? I.... don't know anymore." He look from afar and saw the Mountainous-sized Infernal gazing at his position. "What a disgrace to see myself in this state."

"Father, how did he tame his hunger? I used to have meal with him and Roquinito shared a fun fact that my father eats 8 times a day which is too much but— I only see him ate small portion like organs and all but me...?" He looked at the skeleton and residues of the Succubus-like infernal. "Not even 2 infernals aren't enough to sustain my hunger!" As he wallow in his emotions, armies of Rogue Infernals draws in and Lucas still fueled by his emotion.

"I can't stand this! I don't want to feast on flesh more than twice a day! I just can't.... I can't...! I can't—!" He firmly gripped on Nebulous and its power is swelling up. "I CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE!!!!" He stood up. "I DON'T WANNA EAT MORE FLESH!!!" Nebulous' power reached to higher outage and by the time Lucas swings his sword, a lots of gigantic Rift Reapers unleashed.

Those who got hit by Nebulous' Rift Reaper path were cut like blades and later, it opened a portal. The pressure's too strong and dragged the Rogue Infernals in its vicinity. Lucas opened his eyes and saw numerous gigantic Rift Reapers ahead. The scene made the King shiver in timbers as Nebulous' Rift Reaper connects to the Mortal Realm.

With that number of Rift Reapers casted, so as the vast number of Rogue Infernals dragged towards it. The estimated sizes of the casted Rift Reapers were 3-5 kilometers height and the opening lengths 2.5-3 kilometers.

"Are those— Rift Reapers? Their sizes are... Humongous! Almost alike to Mountainous-sized Infernals!!!" Fascinated, the king failed to realize that the suction force of the Rift Reaper is powerful, thus, he, too is dragged as well.

At the Mortal Realm....

Lucas woke up within a forest and by the time he opened his eyes, chaos breaks in. The world of Mortal is now swarmed by Rogue infernals.

"What have I.... done?"

The Rogue infernals were unleashed in the Mortal Realm, they've cause more chaos than ever. Lucas leaped and floating in mid-air. He look up to the skies and the Rift Reaper still pouring more Rogue infernals to the realm. "O Great Sword, Nebulous! I humbly ask for your wisdom. How am I going to close the portal?"

Nebulous glows. "Huh? The Rift Reaper's intensity is enhanced by my strong emotion? But— that's not the answer I want...!" The sword glows again. "'Even though the Rift Reaper is closed, the way it was casted is based upon a disturbed mental state of its caster? And now, the appearance of Rift Reaper is randomized'? What are you trying to imply? I don't understand!" Lucas is panicking. "Does that mean, the Rift Reapers that I casted will appear whichever part of the Mortal Realm?! Is that it?!" Nebulous glows and Lucas make a facepalm. "What a terrible mistake I've done!" He regrets. "Not only I was wrecked in body but also in mental state!"

"Now, I've endangered the Mortal Realm that originates from my personal problem...!" Nebulous glows. "Rift Reaper remains open for half an hour?! It's taking too long! Aren't there any solutions to minimize its dispelling time?" Nebulous glows. "What? You're blaming me now??! You good-for-nothing sword!!! It's one of your powers, how can you not know damn it??!" Lucas kicked it and the sword glows once more. "Wait, it's first time in your existence to ever encounter such anomaly?" Lucas remembered how unusual the size and numbers of the Rift Reaper he has unleashed earlier. "It sure is odd from what I've seen so far."

Nebulous flickers. "The Rift Reaper's max duration is 30 minutes, huh? So the minimum is somewhere around 10 or 5 minutes?" The Sword's light pulsed. "I guess I need to slay some rogue infernals huh?" He made a facepalm. "What a great mess I've done...!" After that, Lucas propelled himself and summoned a barrage of attacks to the group of Rogue Ones. Lucas is proficient in both aerial and ground battle.

He killed many but as a 1-man army, he cannot extinguish them at once. After all, the Rift Reaper is scattered all over the Mortal Realm, gushing most of the Rogue Infernal's population in. He kept battling and unknowingly, he arrived the village perimeters were Luna lives. "The forest I landed is where I met Luna and her sis. She told me before that their village lies ahead of the forest. Could it be— this is the... place—?!!" Lucas recognized.

And as expected, the village is underattack. He descended and blended with the crowd. Since he is alike of a human than an infernal, he can easily walk free without suspicion. He aided the mortals into slaughtering the Rogue Ones. It was night time in the mortal realm, and night invasion is the worse thing that could ever happen to them.

The village is cleared but the casualties is greater than anticipated. Many have died and destroyed. Lucas, who unleashed the army of Rogue Infernals in this Realm couldn't help but feel guilty. He might saved a village from ruin but he doesn't know the other parts of the world where the rest of the infernals being freed.

Rogue infernals are behaving that of a beast compared to those who are inside the kingdom. Their nature is to kill and they're bloodthirsty. Them being unleashed to the Mortal realm is like a buffet.

Lucas laugh, not for the sake of entertainment, but hopelessness. "Oh my Doom Deity, have I done!" He once again driven by emotional state but suddenly, behind him is a burning mansion. It's not just a mansion but it is where Luna lives.

Inside the burning mansion, Luna is trapped. "Damn it!" She curses. "I'm in deep slumber and failed to notice the fire!" She then rants and start coughing. "I don't think someone has ill intention upon setting arson in my mother's mansion but— *coughing* I did felt an Infernal's stench squirming all over the village." The smoke gone thicker and the air is running out. "I can't leave...! I'm trapped! I refuse to die a pitiful death!?" She wondered as she covered her nose and mouth. "This isn't how I'm going to die! The Soothsayer doesn't told me about my death! How can this b—"

Suddenly, she remembered the divine punishment casted upon those who violates the divine law. "I see... This is my divine punishment, huh?" She fell on the ground, suffocating. "I can't breath... But— I want to live...! I wanna live and met with... That person from the Soothsayer's reading." She's trying to breath but her vision is getting blurry but— "Someone, please... help.... me—!" Though petite as she sounds, it's enough for Lucas to hear a voice in need. "Someone's inside that mansion!"

Lucas wasted no time and searched for that person and when he located the suspected area of where the voice is— Lucas dived in. There, he saw Luna lying on the floor. Just then, the ceilings gave in and is going to collapsed unto the helpless lady. Swiftly, Lucas saved her just in time. Luna's in a verge of fainting but before she does, she saw glimpse of Lucas' face. "Wait.... he looks— familiar...?" Just then, another ceilings gave in but Luna, on the other, hand is fainting. "What.. are you— doing... you'll r die...." She fainted and everything is turned dark.

Next day....

At dawn, Luna is lying under the tree and on the other side Lucas is a mess. Some of his hair, clothing, and body were burnt. He glared at Nebulous. "YOU— !!??" He tries to choke the sword by firmly gripping its gripper. "GOOD-FOR-NOTHING PIECE OF CHUNK SCRAP METAL!!!? How dare you delay the casting of the shield!!??" Nebulous glows. "OOOHHH??? OOooohohohoh!!! Now it's MY FAULT for saving a woman??!!! You rude piece of worthless junk!!?" He shakes it angrily and suddenly Lucas noticed Luna awakening. He hides Nebulous but the sword quickly dissipate.

"Whe— where am I? Am I in Nirvana?" Luna's half awake and Lucas cannot help but chuckled. "Nirvana??! Pft!? We're inside a forest, mortal." Luna heard. "Forest? Am I— not dead?" Lucas draws near and pinched her cheeks. "Aaawhh!!! What in Tophet are you doing?!" She reacted from pain. "You, feeling pain means you're not dead, genius." Luna felt awkward and blushed due to embarrassment. "Shu— shut up! I— I know that....!!!"

Lucas checks. "It seems you're okay." He points at his right. "We're not far from your village. Walk straight and you'll arrive at your home. Now— I'm going to leave." Lucas takes few steps but Luna held onto his right arm. "Before you leave, may I have the honor of knowing the person who saved me?" Lucas faced her. "The name's Lucas... Lucas Li—" just then, he paused, seeing the excitement written to Luna's face. "What an unexpected turn of events!!!" She looks happy and Lucas looked puzzled.

"You're Lucas? As in Lucas Licasffia?!" Lucas raised a brow. "How did you know my name? Did we met somewhere?" It seems Lucas doesn't recognize her. "It's me! Luna!" The lady points at her self, feeling blissful. Lucas tries to remember. "Luna? Hmm...." He rubs his chin. "Oh? Luna and Lura, the red-haired sisters I met before." Luna nods. "By the way, speaking of Lura, where is she?" The blissful expression of Luna fades. "Well, she went to an adventure to cool her head. That's all." Lucas paused. "I see."

Silence dominated the area that the sounds of the insects and breeze were louder than them. Lucas takes a moment to observe her and try to compare the Luna she met before and now. "It's quite hard to believe that this is the same Luna I've met before. She've grown a lot since the last time. Are humans were to develop faster than us, infernals? Or perhaps, I've been focused too much lately making me feel like nothing has really changed since then." As he wondered, Luna flip her her. "Not gonna lie, she's gotten— *blush* beautiful."

Luna looked at him and noticed how messy he is. "You reek infernal blood and burnt skin, clothes, and hair." She sniffs him and Lucas flinched. "I dunno what happened last night since I'm in deep slumber. It's rare for to have that sleep in a while. But either way, thank you for saving me from the fire. You've in that messy state because of me." Lucas look away, embarrassed. "Yeah, can't deny that but I don't mind, really."

Actually, that's not true. Lucas is troubled especially his burnt hair.

"The mansion is burned down but hoping the villagers could somehow lend some of their equipment though. So, let's go Lucas!" She grabbed his arm and drag him towards the Village.

At the village...

Luna headed to the evacuation center and she's greeted by everyone. "Luna! Thank goodness you're alright! We've seen your mansion burned down and we're so worried!" The village chief is relieved. "Well, I wouldn't be here with y'all without this gentleman." Luna let Lucas walk into the spotlight. He can't speak momentarily since he's not used interacting with the mortals. "Hey? I saw that guy last night!" A boy came out from the crowd. "He protected the village from those scary infernals!"

Everyone's fascinated. "Me too!" A warrior stepped in. "I happen to caught a glimpse of his long silky hair and his weird clothing but I'm definitely sure he's the one who killed the majority of the infernals!" The villagers were about to congratulate him but Lucas jolt and stand behind Luna. "Hey? What are you doing? Everyone's cheering for ya, yaknow?" Lucas doesn't fear them, the only that made him act that way is— he doesn't know how to interact much with the living.

"Hmm... An introvert warrior, eh? How amusing." The chieftain touches his beard. "Regardless, we would like to extend our gratitude to you, Mr. Warrior. Without your aid, our village will be wiped out for good. Thank you." Lucas clings to Luna, which is kinda cute. "Anyway, is the barber still up? His hair— you see. It's burned and he looks a lil' mess. He needs grooming."

"Did someone say— grooming??" Suddenly, the barber came out, showing his sharp scissors. "Come at my tent and I'll be sure to give him the greatest service he could really have!" Lucas looked at Luna. "You see, you can just walk around with some part of your hair burned. So, let's go and give you a new look."

Lucas has a knee-long hair. 3 braids on each of his side hair, a pony-tailed tied hair, and another braids to his side hair strands. Usually, Lucas hairstyle has a lot of braids more than his father, Lian Sui. But due to the fire incident, that silky knee-long hair shortened, from once glorious work to a messy disaster.

Luna accompanied him since she noticed that Lucas looks scared. So, she sit there, watching him being groomed. The barber checks his hair and looks fascinated. "Oooh! Your hair is damn healthy! So Silky, and the color of your hair is a mixture of black and dark purple! Ooh! Truly! I fell in love of your hair! Too bad fire messed it up though! What a waste!" The barber shakes his head. "Anyways, it's not like it's all hopeless! We can fix it with my marvelous and humble skills!"

"I am counting on ya Mr. Barber!" Luna cheers him up. "You bet I will, Lady Lunaria!!" Lucas reacted slightly. "Lunaria, the Champion of Humanity??!"Helooks terrified and wondered.
