Chapter 12 - People of great will

A week had passed since the trio had eaten their devil fruits. While they were nowhere near to awakening the devil fruits. They had familiarized themselves with their devil fruits and created applications to their use.

While Eller couldn't help Ruth with the development of his fish-fish fruit beyond suggesting a hybrid form, due to the inflexible development trajectories of Zoan fruits.

He could greatly help Guret with the development of repulsion-repulsion fruit. Due to the fact that most paramecia type devil fruits require a lot of creativity to develop.

Although the repulsion-repulsion fruit didn't have as limited development trajectories like the heal-heal fruit. And it doesn't have as much creative development potential, like the string-string fruit.

It still has a lot of potential for development, and although it doesn't have as much development potential as the string-string fruit, it doesn't mean that it's weaker.

Take the tremor-tremor fruit, even though it doesn't require much development, it's still one of the strongest fruits.

Same can be said about the repulsion-repulsion fruit. Though before awakening either of the fruits, their effective range is small, and they can't directly affect their environment.

This is an inherent limitation of paramecia devil fruits, they can't affect their environment directly, they need a medium.

Take Fox (Davy back fight in the original series) for example, his slow-slow fruit required him to shoot it in beams, and if he had awakened it. He could have directly slowed his surroundings.

As Eller had a good grasp on the workings of devil fruits, and had a whole 14 years of education in his previous life, he could easily guide and give ideas on Gurets repulsion-repulsion fruit development.

As for Ellers own devil fruit development. For Eller the aspects of his devil fruit he had been developing, is the absorption of plants energy to give himself more stamina. As well as trying to develop techniques mirroring Hashirama Senjus wood release jutsus.

For the energy absorption his development went extremely smoothly, though this was mainly due to it being a natural ability of the human-human fruit model druid (I'm shortening it so I don't have to write mythical Zoan a million times in this fic).

But as for replication of Hashirama Senjus techniques. It felt like every step in recreating his techniques took a million times effort compared to the result.

But as for why he still felt that this was useful for him to do. It was because he felt that doing this will accelerate the time of his awakening by a lot, even if he gained minimally from this, but he trusted his instincts.

And even if his instincts were wrong it wouldn't be that big of a loss. The only loss would be in time, and now just 9 years old he knew he had no shortage of time.

As for their new friend Kiro.

After the trio ate their devil fruits. They went back to the bar where Miro had asked if Kiro wanted to see the world.

As a curious child it was obvious in his facial expressions that he wanted to go. But he was not naive like Ruth and he knew that the surface world was dangerous for fishmen.

Although it took a lot of persuading from Eller and a little encouraging from Miro. He finally agreed to go out to sea with them.

Although Miro laid out his own terms for allowing Kiro to go out to sea.

The first was that Kiro had to learn everything he knew about ship building to go to the sea and also have enough strength.

Though these conditions would likely slow down his crew building. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing for Eller.

For one it would give him more time to grow. And the second one was that it would give him the chance to meet Law and try to get him to join his crew, though he was not sure if he would join him.

The reason why he wasn't that confident in recruiting him is because. No one bearing the initial D. has ever truly bowed down to anyone. The closest thing to bowing down in the original series was Garp joining the navy and having to live with the rules of the world government. Though even then he refused to be promoted to a marine admiral. This was due to the fact that marine admirals have to directly work under the celestial dragons and the world government.

And the second example was Marshall D. Teach hiding in the Whitebeard pirates for decades for a small chance of getting his hands on the dark-dark fruit.

From this Eller had made a deduction that every person having the initial D. was incredibly proudfull and in most cases incredibly ambitious.

This was why Eller wasn't too hopeful in the recruitment of Water D. Law. This is just a test if recruiting a person carrying the initial D. is possible.

Just like creating an environment or fulfilling a dream of that person just like how the navy could fulfill Garp's intent and dream of fulfilling his own justice.

But other than planning his future and preparing to fulfill a test, he had also explored the town.

Although he would have preferred to explore the whole island. It was simply too big to quickly explore. That's why he focused on touring the town.

Though initially he didn't find anything out of the ordinary. On the sixth day he found something surprising. He found a girl about the same age as himself with silver hair and purple eyes, although this drew his attention. But these unique characteristics alone would not have piqued his deep interest in her.

It was her status panel that drew his heightened attention.

Portsmouth Orissa

Known Bounty: 0

Although her strength wasn't really special, her talent truly was. A yellow colored estimated potential, he hadn't seen another person with yellow leveled potential like himself.

But what happened when he was gazing at her surprised him. She turned around to look straight at him.

This meant that she had great instincts at least. And that awakening observation haki would be easier for her than most.

Though he didn't introduce himself to her, he wasn't worried that he wouldn't get the chance.

After all, in his opinion, almost everyone with great talent will eventually rise among the masses.

This wasn't because some people are destined to stay weak and others destined to become strong.

No it was because he had instinctively noticed a trend. Those who are born with greater estimated potential, comparapably those with lesser talents are not limited by the potential of their physical body. But the strength of their will, if those normal people will undergo a change in mindset, they would quickly elevate their potential.

This theory was born after hearing about Gurets past. In his life on the merchant ship, he had a stable life and no worries or ambition. If Eller were to give an estimate of his potential at this point in time, it would probably be at best green color. This was because he thinks that the annihilation of the merchant ship and the death in his parents made a change in his mindset, otherwise if that kind of radical change in mindset would have happened when he was at blue color of estimated potential. He would have probably gone straight to the purple level of estimated potential.

But this was solely his own theorizing and it remained to be unproved.

This was also a reason why he paid much attention to this girl. Was not only because she has incredible potential but also because she has a strong sense of self.
