The emperor asked in disbelief, “Is that really you, Anton?”
The elderly man nodded.
“It’s been twenty-four years, Count Lie… no, Your Majesty.”
His voice trailed off as he tilted his head like he was unfamiliar with the sight of his former master occupying the throne.
“So you were still alive,” the emperor stated, his tone a blend of surprise and disbelief.
Despite his customary arrogance and cold demeanor, the return of a servant he had known since childhood was an unusual occurrence.
“I am.”
“Where have you been all this time? And what about your family?”
“I haven’t seen them for twenty-four years… but from what I am aware of, they’re residing in Liepherr,” the old man replied.
The elderly man’s voice fluctuated, occasionally too loud and at other times too soft, as if he weren’t accustomed to speaking.
“Why did you not reveal yourself if you were alive all this time?”
