As he spoke, the emperor’s hand moved toward the dagger at his waist.
It was a terrifying threat. The intensity in his eyes made it clear to her that he meant every word.

So, I made preparations in advance,” the old man continued. “I left a letter with a friend, stating that if I died in an accident, all of Petra’s secrets would be delivered to you, Count, I mean, Your Majesty.”
