Chapter 295 - Chapter 295: Black Sovereign

The battlefield blurred before his eyes. Gu You couldn't clearly make out what was happening anymore.

Each mecha warrior in the melee battalion had activated the shields on their massive gauntlets, generating protective light screens to form a barrier in front of their line. This allowed their companions behind them to unleash their long-range firepower unimpeded.

This is war... Even though Gu You had great confidence in his own strength, the sheer scale of this battle made him feel how small he truly was.

Explosions rang out in continuous waves. Piercing shrieks filled the air. The abyssal creatures didn't seem to bleed; instead, thick black-grey mist poured back into the abyssal tunnel—the last remnants of their bodies upon death.

Gu You couldn't help but think, If I were up there right now using the Golden Dragon Spear to absorb this energy, how much stronger could I become?

Of course, it was just a passing thought. With so many abyssal creatures out there, and given the chaos of the current situation, it wasn't the time to be trying anything like that.

The battle had entered a white-hot phase.

Of the thirty-six tunnels, all others not experiencing abyssal tides were sealed by the Heart of the Blood God's energy barrier, ensuring no new tides could erupt. Their defense was airtight.

Human technology had continued to evolve. New weapons were constantly being deployed to the battlefield. When the Blood God Army was first formed, they lost over seventy percent of their forces in the initial abyssal tide. But over time, the death toll had been steadily reduced with each conflict.

Now, while casualties still occurred, they were much more limited, making the battlefield significantly safer by comparison.

Suddenly, a sound distinct from the previous explosions rang out. One of the mechas on the front line stumbled back, shield raised. Some abyssal beasts had managed to get in close.

A much more violent clash followed as the abyssal creatures pressed forward with ferocious momentum. Clashing sounds echoed everywhere as the frontline mecha warriors poured all their energy into blocking and defending, while the rear continued their barrage of attacks.

For the moment, the tide was being held back effectively.

Jiang Wuyue's face was grim as he watched the battle unfold. Neither the Battle Armor Masters nor the black-grade mecha operators had joined the fight yet. They were reserved for critical moments—to plug holes and respond to emergencies.

So far, the enemy's assault hadn't warranted their deployment.

But then, the ground began to tremble.

Overhead, dark shadows suddenly appeared in the air. These enormous figures immediately exerted tremendous pressure as they entered the battlefield.

Gu You looked up. At least a dozen Be'an—massive, grotesque beasts—were airborne, hurled from the abyssal passage by some unknown force. Their goal was obvious: bypass the front lines and strike at the vulnerable long-range forces in the rear.

Jiang Wuyue snorted coldly and waved his hand.

A line of dazzling lights blazed behind him—long-range soldiers who had long since been prepared. Dozens of searing beams flashed across the sky, slamming into the airborne Be'an with devastating force. Shrill screams filled the air as the creatures were riddled with holes and exploded into grey mist.

Seizing the moment, Gu You hurled his Golden Dragon Spear, transforming it into a streak of golden light that pierced through a nearby Be'an, drawing some grey mist back into himself.

Though he didn't receive any merit points for the kill, the spear returned to his hand, and a fresh wave of vigor surged through him. The stronger the abyssal creature, the more nourishing the energy it released.

He could feel the swirl of blood energy and the embryonic blood core within him pulsing even more vividly—closer than ever to forming.

Suddenly, a muffled boom sounded from the front lines.

A mecha, along with its massive shield, was flung violently backward without warning, crashing into the rear ranks.

Jiang Wuyue's expression shifted. Without hesitation, he dashed forward to intercept. Despite the raw power of his Tyrannosaurus martial soul, even he struggled to stop the mecha's momentum. Both he and the damaged machine were thrown back together.

Gu You reacted immediately, launching off the ground. In midair, he caught both Jiang Wuyue and the falling mecha, stopping them before they hit the ground.

But as they landed, it was clear the mecha was wrecked—sparks flew from its body, and its shield was shattered. When the cockpit opened, the soldier inside was already dead, blood flowing from all seven orifices.

A black-grade mecha quickly moved in to fill the breach.

Gu You's eyes flickered. He had caught sight of a figure—tall and slender, a woman clad in deep violet scales. Wings extended from her back, with bone claws at their tips. Her black eyes glowed with eerie light.

Numerous soul tool attacks struck her but disintegrated as they neared, vanishing within three meters of her body—unable to even explode.

"A Black Sovereign is here! Be on guard! We need a Titled Douluo to contain it!" Jiang Wuyue bellowed.

Even as he spoke, the replacement black-grade mecha was blasted back and sent crashing to the rear. And in that instant, the black-armored figure shot through the gap like a ghost.

With a wave of her arms, a mass of black energy burst forth. Over a dozen mechas were lifted off their feet, flung aside like rag dolls. A massive hole was torn in the front line.

Orders weren't needed. The reserve Battle Armor Masters charged without hesitation.

Jiang Wuyue roared, lunging toward the black-armored woman.

It was Gu You's first time seeing such a creature. She resembled a human—strikingly beautiful, with a voluptuous figure. By human standards, she was undeniably alluring. But she stood over three meters tall, and the black scales covering her body shimmered with an eerie luster.

Black Sovereigns and Magic Charmers were both peak-level abyssal entities. Among those capable of passing through the abyssal tunnel, they were considered relatively small in size—but deadly.

Unlike Magic Charmers, who excelled in speed, Black Sovereigns possessed overwhelming strength. Every Black Sovereign had power on par with a human Titled Douluo.

And the appearance of just one such creature instantly turned the tide of battle. Coordinated energy beams and Battle Armor Masters barely managed to hold her at bay.

But more abyssal creatures were surging forward…
