"Ordinary enforcement officers usually have four soul rings and are equipped with mechas. Patrols typically consist of three people per team."
Xie Xie was startled. "You're even trying to scheme against your own side?"
Gu Yue placed both hands behind her back and flicked her head lightly, causing her hair to flutter. "I've never fought a mecha before."
Gu Yu's mouth twitched slightly. He was starting to regret choosing to come with them.
"Who dares to cause trouble near the Heaven Dou Spirit Pagoda?" Just as they were speaking, an electronic voice rang out, and in the next instant, three massive shadows roared through the air toward them.
One purple and two yellow—three mechas.
Gu Yue's estimation was spot on. It was exactly a standard enforcement unit made up of three mechas. However, she hadn't mentioned that one of them would be a purple mecha.
The purple mecha flying in the lead stood about eight meters tall. Its entire body had smooth contours, its frame compact and sleek, with no obvious soul tool weapons visible. Instead, it carried two large swords strapped across its back.
Generally speaking, mechas were categorized into five levels, similar to soul rings, and were also ranked by color.
White-class soul-guided mechas were the most basic. Usually used for training purposes, they allowed for basic maneuvering and energy loading. They could only support short-term combat and lacked the ability to integrate with soul power or interact with soul spirits. All control was manual.
Yellow-class soul-guided mechas were standard military mechas. These had better maneuverability, could utilize basic energy cores, and were dual-powered by energy and soul power. They could interact simply with soul spirits but still relied on manual control.
Purple-class soul-guided mechas were high-grade and typically customized. Designed specifically for individual soul masters, they aligned closely with the user's martial soul and possessed much greater responsiveness. These were known as personalized mechas and allowed smooth cooperation with soul spirits. They were also manually controlled.
Black-class soul-guided mechas were elite-grade, crafted with special materials, designs, and forging methods. These could partially integrate soul spirits, becoming an extension of the user's body. Each black-class mecha had a single user and would not function for anyone else. Operating one required at least a Soul Emperor's cultivation and Spirit Sea Realm spiritual power. Some control could even be performed mentally, allowing complex maneuvers.
Red-class mechas were god-grade and had to be personally crafted by the user. They required the finest materials, top-tier forging, and complete integration of the user's bloodline and martial soul. Essentially, they became a living part of the user. In rare cases, the soul spirit would fuse entirely with the mecha, creating a unique symbiosis.
Typically, military personnel only used yellow-class mechas. Purple-class mechas were simply too costly and were generally reserved for wealthy organizations like the Spirit Pagoda. Such mechas were designed precisely around a soul master's abilities, greatly enhancing both combat and survival capabilities.
If the soul master inside the purple mecha only had four rings, the mecha itself would boost their combat strength to the level of a five-ring Soul King, with a defense even surpassing that level.
The three mechas landed heavily. The pilots inside were slightly stunned to see a bunch of kids in front of them.
They had detected soul power fluctuations via surveillance. According to Spirit Pagoda regulations, no soul power or soul tools could be activated within one kilometer of the tower, which is why they'd been dispatched. But they hadn't expected to find only a group of teenagers.
"What are you kids doing here? Who activated soul power and triggered the alarm?" came a scolding voice from the purple mecha.
"It was him!" Ye Xinglan suddenly raised her hand and pointed at Gu Yu.
Aminos… Gu Yu was speechless. Really? Just like that?
"You, come with us. The rest of you, contact your instructors to pick you up." The purple mecha extended its massive mechanical hand toward Gu Yu.
Gu Yu gave a helpless chuckle, lowered his head slightly, and said, "Sorry, Mr. Enforcer, it was my mistake. Can we just let this go?"
The enforcer snorted. "The dignity of the Spirit Pagoda cannot be violated. Rules are rules. Come with me. Don't worry, once your teacher comes to collect you, you won't be in too much trouble."
Gu Yu raised his head with a wide-eyed, innocent look. "Not too much? How much exactly?"
"A few hundred credits at most," the enforcer said, starting to lose his patience.
"Fine?!" Gu Yu's voice suddenly jumped several octaves. "I don't have any money! If you want money, take my life instead. My money is my life, and I'm broke! If you've got the guts, come catch me!"
He was still buried under a mountain of debt. Thousands of billions! A few hundred? He couldn't even spare a single coin!
With that, a pair of dragon wings unfolded from Gu Yu's back, and he took off toward Ye Xinglan.
Now it was Ye Xinglan's turn to be stunned. This guy… seriously?
"Huh?" The enforcer inside the purple mecha was taken aback. Shouldn't kids this age be respectful and obedient in front of a mecha? What kind of attitude was this?
Still, he had a job to do. He couldn't just let Gu Yu escape. Light flared on the mecha's back as it launched into pursuit, a massive mechanical hand extending to grab Gu Yu.
But in doing so, he made a critical error—he split off from his two teammates.
Ye Xinglan sprang into action, her figure leaping forward like a bolt of lightning, charging directly at one of the yellow mechas. At the same time, Gu Yue raised her arms and summoned a massive fireball toward the other yellow mecha. Xie Xie vanished into thin air.
Xu Xiaoyan raised her ice staff, forming an icy spear in an instant.
They acted with speed and coordination. The two yellow mecha pilots were still focused on the purple mecha's chase and hadn't even noticed the sneak attack.
Ye Xinglan moved fastest. Her Star God Sword flashed brilliantly, her body and blade becoming one. She activated her first soul skill, aiming directly for the cockpit.
By the time the yellow mecha could react, she was already there.
All it could do was lift its right arm to block the strike.
Ding! A piercing flash burst forth like a star exploding. Sparks flew from the mecha's right arm as it was torn apart. The violent burst of soul power completely disrupted its structure. Using the momentum, Ye Xinglan shot skyward like a golden star. Her third soul ring flared to life.
It was her strongest soul skill to date. Terrifying sword intent surged from her, razor-sharp and overwhelming. As her soul power erupted, alarms began to blare from the nearby Spirit Pagoda.
Meanwhile, Gu Yue's fireball had reached the other yellow mecha. That one reacted slightly quicker, raising its mechanical arm and activating a light shield just in time to block the blast.
The fireball exploded with a thunderous boom, scattering flames and shockwaves in every direction...
