# Chapter 54 – The Poisoned Cup
Someone knocked on my door when the sun was just coming up. Three quick taps. Same as usual.
I groaned and rolled over. Everything hurt from training yesterday. Marcus has been working me to death lately. Keeps saying I gotta be ready. Won't tell me what for though.
"Yeah, come in," I said.
The door made this awful creaking noise and Elder Thorne walked in. He's been with Nightfall forever - way before I was even born. His hair's gone completely white and his hands shake when he moves around.
"Morning, girl," he said. His voice always sounds like sandpaper. "Got something for you."
He was holding this little glass bottle full of black stuff. Looked thick, kind of like honey but way darker.
I sat up real quick. "What's that supposed to be?"
"It's medicine," Thorne said, putting it on the table next to my bed. "Gonna make your connection with that moonstone stronger. Marcus told me to make it just for you."
