# Chapter 53 – The Baby's Truth
*Lydia's POV*

Sleep used to be my escape. Not anymore.
The voice started small. Just whispers at first. I figured it was stress. Being pregnant makes you hear things, right? That's what all the books say.
But this morning was different.
"Mother." The word came clear as day. Inside my head. Inside my dream. "The darkness calls to us."
I sat up fast. Too fast. My head spun and I had to grip the bedsheets. Marcus was already gone. Thank god. How do you explain to your mate that your five-month-old fetus just said something that would make grown wolves run?
Because that's what happened. My baby talked to me. Not baby sounds. Real words. Big scary words that made my stomach twist.
I put both hands on my belly. It was getting huge. Way too huge for five months. Dr. Hayes keeps saying everything's normal but his eyes tell a different story. He's delivered hundreds of werewolf babies. This isn't normal.
Nothing about this is normal.
