Chapter 32 - chapter 32: poke village

I wake up to someone knocking on my door in the morning. To my surprise, it's still pitch black outside, clearly very early in the morning. I hear the person knocking again, coming closer. I get up, throw on my jacket, grab my cane, and strap my Poké Balls to my belt. I open the door and see a huge Machamp over eleven feet tall with arms as thick as barrels.

I hold out my hand for a friendly handshake. "Hello, sit nice to meet you," the Machamp grins and grabs my hands, squeezing tightly like solid steel. He gives me a firm handshake. "Nice to meet you," I say. "The name's Mark." I raise an eyebrow. "You have a name?" the Machamp nods. "Yes, many years ago, there were no names, but there were so many Pokémon of the same species that some Pokémon without a keen sense of smell got confused. This messed up a lot of things and caused issues everywhere. This is when names were finally implemented."

"Enough of that," I say. "I'm supposed to give you a tour, and we got a lot to cover. We don't have much time because in two hours, you'll be meeting with your supervisor." I pause for a moment. "When did I get a supervisor last night?" I ask.

"While the majority of people are fine with humans and the deal we made, they wouldn't dare ever harm you directly," the Machamp explains. "However, they have a deep sense of suspicion and weariness towards humans. So, you were given a supervisor who will also be your guide. They will keep an eye on you and make sure you're not doing anything shady."

"Enough of that," I say. "Let's give you a tour." The Machamp turns and starts walking down the hallway. I follow after him. He starts speaking. "I don't think anyone's told you this yet, but this place is called Poké Village," he says. I raise an eyebrow in surprise. "What surprised you?" he chuckles. "Just wasn't expecting it to do so…human." He waves his hand dismissively. "No problem. It's a common source of confusion for trainers. You see, it's a symbol, a declaration of independence, and it shows our origins. No matter what, this is still and will always be a home, a gathering place for Pokémon." He chuckles and opens the door, revealing a dark pathway with houses made of wood.Sizes and shapes, wow! I stepped out awestruck. You see, Mark says that with all these different species, we adapted instead of having just one size. We made a variety, and it's a marvel, isn't it? A true beauty! I look around and see the few beams of morning light bathing the street while fog gathers around the floor, creating a breathtaking view. Mark chuckles. I was told that most trainers at that way once they see the view, they grin with pride and start walking again. As I follow him, he starts explaining again. You see, the valley is circular, and the village is split into four pieces. The center of the valley is the best part of the village. Only the strongest and most influential Pokémon live there. Most laws and important dissuasions are made, and our hospitals, schools, and prisons are surrounding it. This is the housing ring, where most Pokémon live and work. Most Pokémon there haven't left the valley ever and aren't trained for combat. They're as civilian as can be. Then there are the training grounds, which surround the village. Any Pokémon is welcome to use them. Interesting, your village is very similar to a human city. Mark smirks. That was the point. Now, let's get going. We have to get you to your supervisor. We walk down the winding roads, seeing the town slowly come to life as all kinds of different types of Pokémon come out and start preparing for their day. As we walk down the street, I notice a change. The buildings became smoother and sleeker, with stone starting to be incorporated into the builds. The number of Pokémon drastically decreased after a while of walking. We walk up to a large gate, and Mark knocks loudly and shouts, "I'm coming in!" He shoves the gate open with a loud bang, and my eyes are greeted with green pastures, flowers, and a large lake with crystal-blue water. In the center of it all, there stands a large stone structure: a tall tower. At the base connecting to the tower is a mix of houses and labs. Parts of the houses are machines, and parts are odd gray wood that's color almost matched stone. As we approached the houses, a dul sound fills the air.Low vibration emanated from the house. Mark appeared unaffected and walked up to the house, knocking loudly. "Hey, shut your machine off already! I hear a large clatter, then whirr as it's turned off. The door opens, revealing a Raichu wearing goggles. It immediately starts butting heads with Mark. I thought I told you to bring him in three hours. I thought I had time; I was in the middle of something important. Mark rebukes angrily. I told you I wasn't going to make him wait three hours. Whatever, come in, come in. It's ruined anyway."

The Raichu turns to look at me with a grumpy look. "My name is Leo," I hold out my hand and give him a handshake. "It's nice to meet you, sir. At least you have manners, unlike somebody." He shoots Mark a glare before opening his door and gesturing us to follow him in.

I walk into the house and am struck by how messy everything is. Papers filled with dense writing are stuffed in large boxes. "Sorry about the mess," I say. "Some bumbling fool messed up and destroyed lots of copies of very important documents and research papers. They were sent here for temporary storage until they can get better protection. Up in the lab, it's been such a pain."

He signs with a weary look on his face and leads us into his kitchen. He pushes boxes full of research papers off the table and chair and sits down, gesturing for me and Mark to do the same. "Let's talk sense," he says. "I'm going to be watching over you until you leave. I think it's best if we get to know each other. I'll get started."

"I'm Leo," I say. "I'm the head researcher and development of Pokémon Village. I like making inventions and researching. Quite frankly, I dislike loudness. My dream is to create an invention so grand that it will affect the whole world."

I smile. "My name is John," I say. "I like Pokémon training, fire sweets, and adventure. I dislike bitter and spicy food. People who pray on the weak. My dream is to have the greatest adventure ever and become the Pokémon master."
