Chapter 198 - Chapter 198: Marcus's Statue

"Haha, my luck is incredible—I found the last batch of parts!"

Jonathan pointed to the parts in his cart, showing them off. With these components, his tractor could run for another three years.

"You really have a soft spot for those vintage machines of yours!"

Marcus helplessly rubbed his forehead. Jonathan could afford a new tractor, but he insisted on fixing his old one.

Marcus knew exactly how bad that broken machine was. When harvesting crops, he and Jonathan had to restart it constantly just to keep the thing moving.

"Ha, it's a man's hobby. I feel great knowing that tractor will run again under my care."

Jonathan laughed and walked toward the checkout with Marcus.

After spending his last night on the farm, Marcus had sampled all the dishes Martha prepared.

Among the sumptuous meal, his favorite was the meat roll Martha made—layers of rich meat sauce gradually cooked within the dough wrapping.

The crispy crust and juicy meat sauce made the rolls especially delicious.

"Next time I eat meat rolls, who knows when that'll be."

Sighing softly, thick mist wrapped around his body and he gradually vanished from the room, leaving only a letter slowly falling to the floor.

Marcus didn't leave this world directly—instead, he went to Gotham.

The fundraising church had already begun construction, but in front of the building stood a massive statue.

It depicted Marcus transformed into Harrow, even holding a huge Incinerator in the statue's hands.

This was what Gordon, Cobblepot, and others had requested. As witnesses to that day's events, they clearly understood Harrow's power.

They hoped this statue, like Marcus himself, could suppress all demons and ensure they could never break out of the hell passage again.

Besides the statue everyone had erected, priests throughout Gotham had also changed their attire. They all wore uniforms modeled after Harrow.

In their view, this warrior was an apostle sent by God who'd come to Earth to drive out demons.

This apostle's appearance was tantamount to being closest to the divine. By wearing such uniforms, they might be able to connect with God just like him and become other divine apostles.

Looking at the people around him, Marcus smiled. Gotham, the crime capital, had its endearing side too.

In a blink, his entire body was enveloped by energy, and the next moment he appeared on the statue's shoulders.

Such an obvious action was naturally seen by onlookers, but after seeing Marcus's attire and the faintly glowing Incinerator in his hand, the crowd became ecstatic.

Most had only heard rumors, but they hadn't expected this saint they'd only heard about to appear before them.

Looking at the excited crowd, Marcus lightly raised his Incinerator, and massive energy flowed toward the weapon held by the statue.

The original stone Incinerator was instantly wrapped in energy, its color becoming lighter and brighter as time passed.

Seeing Marcus's actions, everyone was confused. They didn't understand what he was doing.

Before long, someone with sharp eyes suddenly made a surprised sound.

"My God!"

These words made the people around him very curious—had he discovered something unusual?

But they were looking at the statue too—why couldn't they see any changes?

"I see it now!"

The man exclaimed again, making those around him even more curious about what he'd spotted.

"Did you see something?"

These words resonated with everyone nearby. They really wanted to know what he'd observed.

The person was surprised by this question—couldn't they see such an obvious thing?

"Can't you see that mace-like thing glowing?"

Under his guidance, everyone stared at the stone Incinerator, wanting to spot something different about it.

Gradually, more and more people noticed the faint light emanating from the weapon. It was very soft illumination that wouldn't be noticed unless someone looked carefully.

"Is that what the saint did? But why?" some people wondered.

"You're being dense. It's impossible for a saint to only guard our Gotham. There must be demons in many places throughout this world, and he has to exorcise them."

"Exactly! The saint turned the weapon into a holy relic that can dispel evil spirits and destroy demons. He's using another method to protect us."

There was much discussion among the people as they speculated about Marcus's actions.

After Marcus completed the energy infusion, his figure gradually disappeared from everyone's sight in Gotham with the thick mist.

The energy contained in the sculpture could last for a very long time. Even if demons broke through the restraints and reopened the hell passage, the power within this statue could temporarily suppress the portal for a while.

Regarding Marcus's actions, countless believers in Gotham made the sign of the cross and prayed silently.

Even the priests acted the same way, becoming more convinced that Marcus was a saint sent by God.

News from the church soon reached Wayne Manor, and Bruce and Selina, who were training, showed excited expressions when they heard.

They knew Marcus had returned—only he had that kind of ability.

Just as they were about to rush to the church, they saw Alfred hurrying in with a letter.

"Master Bruce, this letter suddenly appeared on my desk just now. It was left by Mr. Marcus."

Seeing the envelope, Bruce was obviously taken aback. He didn't understand why Marcus hadn't come back but had left a letter instead.

"Is the teacher gone?"

"I think so. He left a letter and departed."

Selina shook the opened letter, and besides the note, there were two metallic razor butterflies.

"These are gifts he left us—or maybe guardians?"

Following her voice, the two razor butterflies' wings trembled slightly, flapping as they flew up and circled around both of them.

Seeing the two razor butterflies gleaming brightly in the sunlight, Bruce gradually smiled.

Although Marcus hadn't come back to see them, it was certain he still cared about them very much—these two razor butterflies were proof of that.

"Our mission will continue." Bruce looked at Alfred beside him. "I think I know how to use the secret room my father left behind!"

He planned to expand that chamber to make it his secret base, enabling him to act at any time.

He wanted to maintain Gotham's order as before and make the city better.
