As the crew boarded the Going Merry, Takuya motioned for Dorry and Broggy to lean down. The two giants exchanged curious glances before crouching, their massive frames still towering over him even at this level.
Keeping his voice low, Takuya began, "Listen carefully." He pulled out a carefully drawn map from his coat. "I've hidden six months' worth of cookies in a cave system near the northern cliffs." He pointed to a specific marking on the parchment. "This location here. Enough for one per dinosaur per day."
Broggy's bushy eyebrows shot up. "GYAHAHA! You planned ahead, little man!"
Dorry scratched his chin thoughtfully. "But what stops them from sniffing out the stash?"
Takuya's lips quirked into a rare smirk. "The cave's lined with volcanic rock that masks the scent. They'll never find it." He fixed the giants with a serious look. "This is important - no more than one per day. No matter how much they beg."
Nami, who had been eavesdropping, snorted. "Like that'll stop them from trying."
Takuya ignored her, continuing in a hushed tone, "The supply is calculated to last exactly six months. If they run out early..." His expression turned stern. "...they go without until the time's up. No exceptions."
Dorry blinked. "That's... surprisingly harsh."
Broggy rubbed his beard. "What if they—"
"No," Takuya cut in sharply. "They'll learn discipline. Or starve." His tone softened slightly. "I'll send more when the time's up. But not a day sooner."
From the ship's railing, Mira giggled. "Master~ You're such a softie~ Pretending to be all tough while setting up a six-month cookie supply~"
Takuya shot her a glare. "NOT. ANOTHER. WORD. DON'T FORGET YOU ARE STILL MY SLAVE. IF YOU ACT COCKY JUST BECAUSE I'M LENIENT WITH YOU THEN FORGET GETTING ANY MORE COOKIES FROM ME."
The moment Takuya's sharp words cut through the air, the entire deck of the Going Merry fell into stunned silence - except for Luffy, who was busy trying to balance three oranges on his nose at the ship's figurehead, completely oblivious to the tension.
Nami was the first to react, her hands clenching into fists as she stepped forward. "That's way out of line!" she snapped, her voice shaking with anger. "You can't call someone a slave like that!"
Takuya turned slowly, his expression calm but his eyes sharp. "She became my slave out of her own violation," he stated matter-of-factly.
"Couldn't pay her debts. If she doesn't have a problem with it, why should you?" He crossed his arms. "Plus, it's not like I've treated her badly for someone called a slave."
Zoro's hand moved to his sword hilt, his eye narrowing dangerously. "Doesn't matter. That's no way to talk to someone."
Takuya met Zoro's glare without flinching. "Are you sure you want to fight someone you've barely met?" he asked calmly. "Someone whose intentions and powers you're completely unaware of?"
A small smirk played on his lips. "Just because I make cookies doesn't mean I'm weak. Is this how the future world's greatest swordsman picks his fights?
With no planning or information? I thought losing from Mihawk would have made you cautious enough to not jump into a fight you know nothing about. Thanks to luffy I know everything you guys have done till you reached loguetown."
Zoro's grip on his sword tightened, but he didn't draw it, clearly thrown off by Takuya's words, and scoffing at the fact that luffy spilled everything about them, while they actually know nothing about him.
Nami wasn't done. "That's different and you know it! Slavery is-"
"If you hate the word 'slave' so much," Takuya cut in, his voice turning icy, "why did you work for someone who kept you like one for eight years?" Nami's breath caught in her throat. "Luffy told me everything that happened at Cocoyasi Village - how Arlong held your village hostage, killed your mother, and made you work for him."
He let the words hang in the air before continuing. "If I'm scum for keeping a willing slave, what does that make you for working for the man who enslaved your entire island? Who killed your mother right in front of you?"
Nami took a step back as if struck, her face pale.
"I don't care if you were a kid," Takuya continued mercilessly. "Luffy shared all your stories with me - how you stole from pirates to buy back your village. If you could work for your captor to save your village, what's so wrong about me taking in someone who couldn't pay her debts?"
He gestured to Mira, who was watching silently. "I could've thrown her in a cell. Sold her off. Instead she travels with me, eats with me, gets treated better than most servants. But you," he pointed at Nami, "you went around stealing from people who trusted you. What kind of double standards are these?"
Sanji stepped forward, his usual playful demeanor gone. "That's enough," he said coldly. "No woman should-"
"You want to free her?" Takuya interrupted. "Luffy told me about your dream of finding All Blue. Are you willing to give that up? To stop being a chef and spend your life working off her debt instead? That's what it would take."
Sanji froze, his cigarette nearly falling from his lips.
Usopp, who had been hiding behind the mast, peeked out. "W-we should all just calm down-"
Takuya turned his gaze on the sniper. "Luffy told me about Kaya too. About how you want to tell her stories of your adventures." His voice turned sharper. "First grow some real courage.
If you want to have a say, stand up for what you believe without hiding behind the deck like you're doing right now. Without Luffy and the others, would you have even survived to see Kaya again? I wonder what she'd think if she heard how you cower at the first sign of danger."
Usopp's mouth snapped shut as he shrunk back.
Takuya looked around at the stunned crew. "I could have told you all about myself sooner, but would you really have opened up to a drug dealer? Or would you have kept your guard up the whole time, just like you're doing now?"
The deck fell silent except for the creaking of the ship and the distant cries of seagulls. The Straw Hats exchanged uneasy glances, realizing how much of their history Takuya knew - and how little they knew about him in return.
Vivi, who had been silent until now, spoke softly. "Takuya-san, surely you understand why this upsets us..."
Takuya sighed, some of the edge leaving his voice. "Princess, you should worry more about freeing your own people than a 'slave' who chose her situation." He reached into his coat and pulled out a folded paper.
"Here's the deal. Princess, you don't question things I do that don't harm you in any way, and in return I'll help liberate Alabasta from Crocodile.
As for the strawhats, here's the contract Mira signed. If any of you want to buy her freedom, as of now, the amount she owns is 300 million beri. Cash. Give the cash right now, and she's all yours to deal with."
Nami gasped. "That's three times what we have!"
Takuya shrugged. "That's the price. Debt plus interest." He looked around at the stunned crew. "Until then, she stays with me. And none of you have any right to judge how I handle my affairs."
The deck fell into heavy silence, broken only by Luffy's cheerful voice from the figurehead: "Hey guys! Look! I got four oranges balanced now!" He turned, finally noticing the tension. "...Did I miss something?" All eyes turned to Mira, who was suddenly the center of attention.
Nami was the first to break the silence, her voice trembling with disbelief. "Mira... just how many days have you been eating these cookies to rack up a 300 million beri debt?"
Vivi's hand flew to her mouth. "That's more than some small countries' annual budgets!"
Before Mira could answer, Takuya cut in flatly: "Three days."
The entire crew's jaws dropped in perfect unison. Even Zoro's eye widened slightly at the number.
"THREE DAYS?!" Usopp shrieked, his voice cracking. He grabbed his hair dramatically. "HOW THE HELL DO YOU OWE 300 MILLION IN THREE DAYS?!"
Sanji's cigarette fell from his lips, forgotten. "That's... that's mathematically impossible unless..."
All eyes turned back to Mira, who suddenly looked very interested in examining her nails. A faint blush colored her cheeks as she avoided their gazes.
"Well... you see..." she began, twirling a lock of hair around her finger, "Master's cookies are just so~ delicious..." Her voice took on a dreamy quality. "The perfect crunch... the heavenly sweetness... that subtle hint of spice that makes you crave more..." She licked her lips unconsciously.
Nami's eye twitched. "Get to the point."
Mira sighed dramatically. "I may have... sort of... eaten an entire batch meant for a week's supply in one sitting?" She held up her hands defensively at their horrified expressions. "In my defense! They were sitting right there! Unattended! Practically begging to be eaten!"
Takuya crossed his arms. "Then the next day, she broke into the locked storage."
Mira pouted. "You left the key in the lock!"
"And the next day," Takuya continued, his voice dripping with sarcasm, "she somehow managed to steal the emergency stash I kept hidden in a reinforced safe."
Mira's blush deepened. "Okay, that one I'm actually proud of," she muttered.
Usopp's knees buckled. "So let me get this straight... you ate... what? Thousands of cookies in three days?"
"Not thousands!" Mira protested. Then after a beat: "...Hundreds, maybe."
Chopper, who had been silently calculating on his hoof, suddenly gasped. "That's medically impossible! Your stomach would have ruptured!"
Mira waved a hand dismissively. "Details, details~"
Nami looked like she was about to have an aneurysm. "And each one of those cookies was worth...?"
"One million beri," Takuya said calmly.
"ONE MILLION BERI PER COOKIE?!" the entire crew screamed in unison, even Zoro joining in this time.
Luffy, still balancing his oranges, blinked. "That sounds like a good deal!"
"It's highway robbery!" Nami shrieked, her face turning red. "What are they made of, solid gold?!"
Takuya shrugged. "Special ingredients. Rare spices from the North Blue. Moonlight-infused sugar. A dash of-"
"Master's secret recipe~" Mira interrupted with a singsong voice, winking at the crew.
Sanji, who had been silently fuming, suddenly looked intrigued despite himself. "Moonlight-infused sugar...?"
Before he could ask more, Nami grabbed Mira by the shoulders and shook her violently. "YOU ATE 300 COOKIES IN THREE DAYS AND NOW WE'RE STUCK WITH THIS DEBT?!"
Mira wobbled like a ragdoll, her voice shaking from the motion. "Worth~ every~ bite~"
