Episode 10: Threads of Destiny

The morning sky was pale, as if drained of color by the blood moon's fury. Juvia sat quietly beneath the crumbled archway, her fingers curled around the now-cool talisman. The vision still haunted her, but something within her had shifted.

She had chosen herself.

She had remembered the pain—and rejected the poison.

Ha-jun sat beside her, not speaking. He didn't need to. His presence was enough. But even his calm couldn't quiet the storm that brewed inside her.

Eunji approached, her expression serious. "There's no time to rest. Rian has crossed the second veil."

Juvia turned sharply. "You said the gate was sealed."

"It was." Eunji nodded grimly. "But your encounter must've weakened the bounds. The more you remember, the more the past begins to bleed into this life."

"So, what happens now?" Juvia asked, standing.

"We go to the Temple of Broken Time," Ha-jun said, his eyes darkening. "It's the only place where your soul fragments can be fully restored. If Rian reaches it before you… he can rewrite your past lives."

"Rewrite?" Juvia's voice trembled. "He could erase everything I've ever been?"

Eunji nodded. "Yes. And mold you into something you're not."

The weight of it settled in Juvia's chest.

"Then we can't let him get there."

—

They traveled swiftly, through whispering forests and ancient trails, guided by moonlight even during the day. With every step, Juvia felt her senses sharpen. She began seeing flickers of lives she couldn't remember—her hands casting light over battlefields, her voice singing lullabies in forgotten languages, her tears falling over graves marked with crescent moons.

Ha-jun noticed.

"You're awakening faster than expected."

Juvia glanced at him. "Does it scare you?"

His jaw clenched. "Only if it means you'll leave again."

She stopped walking.

"Ha-jun…"

He turned, avoiding her eyes.

"In every lifetime, I protected you. And every time, I lost you. To fate. To Rian. To death."

Juvia stepped closer. "But you're still here."

He finally met her gaze. "Because I would walk through every shadow just to find you again."

Her breath caught. She felt it then—their connection, older than time, tender and painful. And yet, something in her hesitated. A thread she couldn't yet unravel.

"I don't want to be someone who always needs saving," she whispered.

Ha-jun reached for her hand. "You're not. You're someone worth fighting beside."

—

By dusk, they arrived at the edge of the Valley of Echoes. The air shimmered unnaturally. Stone pillars floated mid-air, each carved with runes glowing faintly. A staircase of light led up toward a circular platform—the entrance to the Temple of Broken Time.

But someone stood waiting at the base of the steps.

Rian.

This time, he wore full black robes laced with silver. His eyes were glowing faintly—like a moon eclipsed.

"I hoped you'd make it," he said calmly, voice low and magnetic. "You always do."

Ha-jun stepped forward, blade drawn. "Step aside."

Rian chuckled. "Still the faithful guard dog. Tell me, Ha-jun—what will you do when she chooses me again?"

"She won't," Ha-jun growled.

Juvia moved between them. "Stop."

Both boys froze.

She looked at Rian. "I remember the garden. I remember the vows we made. But I also remember how you twisted love into something painful."

Rian's expression faltered—but just for a moment.

"I was desperate," he said. "I loved you too much."

"Love without freedom isn't love," Juvia replied softly. "It's control."

The air crackled. The moon rose higher.

Rian stepped back, voice sharp. "Then we'll see what truth you choose… when the Temple shows you everything."

In a flash of black mist, he vanished—reappearing far above them, at the temple's gate.

"Catch me, if you can."

The challenge was set.

Juvia gritted her teeth, looking to the staircase of light.

"I have to go."

Ha-jun grabbed her wrist. "You won't be alone."

They ascended together—step by step, toward a temple that held not just memories, but the power to reshape fate itself.

And behind them… shadows gathered, whispering of trials to come.
