Episode 5: When Blood Remembers
The figure stepped closer, his eyes glowing crimson beneath the moonlight.
Juvia's breath hitched. Her heart thudded against her ribs like a drum of war.
Ha-jun moved in front of her protectively, his voice low and steady.
"You shouldn't be here."
The figure smirked. "Neither should she."
His voice echoed unnaturallyâlike it came from another realm entirely.
Juvia's legs trembled, but she didn't look away. Something in that man's presence stirred her blood. An ancient fear⌠or memory?
"Who is he?" she whispered.
Ha-jun's eyes didn't leave the intruder.
"His name is Kael. He's a memory eater. One of the highest-ranked hunters from the Eclipse Bloodline. He consumes lives to erase their return in the next cycle."
Kael tilted his head. "Ah⌠so she remembers me."
Juvia flinched. "What?"
Kael's smirk deepened. "In your last life, I was the one who slit your throat under the temple tree."
A sharp gasp escaped her lips.
Ha-jun's fists clenched, a blue light flaring at his fingertips.
"Touch her again and I'll tear your soul apart."
Kael only chuckled, stepping into the courtyard. "How romantic. Still playing the guardian, shadow-boy? Haven't you learned? You can't change fate."
Suddenly, he lunged.
Ha-jun pushed Juvia back and clashed with Kael mid-air, their collision sending a blast of dark energy rippling through the courtyard. Statues cracked. The ground trembled.
Juvia stumbled to the ground, watching as the two moved with supernatural speedâkicks, slashes, bursts of magic colliding like thunder.
But Ha-jun was outnumbered by Kael's speed and ruthlessness.
Kael's clawed hand pierced Ha-jun's side, blood spraying across the ancient stones.
"HA-JUN!" Juvia screamed.
He fell to one knee, panting.
Kael turned to her, slowly walking toward where she sat frozen in fear. "You're weaker in this life," he mused. "Maybe I should kill her now. End the cycle myself."
Juvia backed away, tremblingâwhen something in her chest burned.
A heat. A power.
The moon above flared brighter, and a silver glow radiated from her skin.
Kael froze. "ImpossibleâŚ"
Juvia's voice roseânot her own, but layered with something divine and old.
"You were warned never to spill innocent blood on sacred ground."
She raised her palmâlight erupting from it like a cometâand struck Kael with a beam of lunar fire.
He screamed as the light engulfed him, his body flung into the shadows with a crash that shook the heavens.
Silence returned.
Juvia collapsed to her knees, gasping. The glow faded. Her hands trembled.
Ha-jun crawled toward her, wounded but stunned.
"You⌠unlocked it," he whispered.
She looked at him, eyes wide with fear. "What was that?"
He took her face in his bloodied hands, staring at her like she was both miracle and mystery.
"You just awakened your true power⌠the Moonfire. The final gift of the goddess before she died in our first life."
Juvia shook her head, overwhelmed. "I don't know how I did itâŚ"
"You don't need to," he said. "Not yet. But now⌠everything changes. They'll come for you in full force."
"I don't care," she whispered. "I'm not running."
He looked at her, a sad smile breaking through the pain. "Then we fight⌠together."
From the sky above, the moon pulsedâwatching. Remembering.
And in the darkness, Kael's broken form stirred.
This wasn't over.
Not even close.
