Pierce turned off the screen, patted the table with a gloomy expression, and glanced at the Hydra agents assembled in the conference room.
"Tell me what Alex Ray is up to. Should we take the opportunity to disrupt his game?" Pierce asked seriously.
He didn't understand Alex's motive behind this racing competition. Did it mean his next move required a fast driver? But what use is a racer? Or was the competition just a cover, a code?
Perhaps it was a way to gather underground forces to plan something—or to search for someone, who just happened to be a racing driver?
Pierce refused to believe Alex would go through so much trouble without a clear purpose. Looking back, every step Alex had taken so far had been very calculated.
Could it be that this racing competition was actually targeting S.H.I.E.L.D. or Hydra?
Thinking this through, Pierce looked at his right-hand men, Kadoya Tsukasa and Reed Richards.
That's right, Kadoya had demonstrated his value in the last duel with Alex, and currently only Kadoya could stand toe-to-toe with him.
So, whether this was just for show or to win over Kadoya, Pierce was ready to satisfy any of Kadoya's conditions.
Kadoya crossed his legs and thought to himself: "Racing competition? That's boring. I don't know how many motorcycle competitions I've participated in. Maybe I'm not the fastest, but I'm probably better at killing monsters. It's a pity Alex doesn't seem to be participating."
Pierce noticed Kadoya's silence and shifted his gaze to Mr. Fantastic Reed standing nearby.
Reed had anticipated this question and calmly replied, "Sir, we can't know Alex's motives. But we don't need to.
I think we shouldn't stop him. Instead, we should use this chance to promote his racing event."
Pierce raised an eyebrow but said nothing, waiting for Reed's explanation.
Reed continued, "Sir, Alex made it clear: whoever wins the competition will receive his promise. That's our opening.
We can try to recruit Alex into the Illuminati, or introduce him to the X Consortium. Either way, we benefit."
Pierce was visibly intrigued by the idea but remained cautious. "Will Alex really agree to our terms? What if he changes his mind?"
Pierce was confident in his own strength—he believed that if he wanted to win, he would. But he also knew Alex wasn't an easy man to deal with.
Reed smiled grimly. "That's why we have to help promote the competition, make it public. If Alex fails to keep his promise, we can spread the word.
Then not only will the people of New York City distrust him, but even Hell's Kitchen residents will think he's a man who breaks his word.
In any case, this competition is a win-win for us."
After Reed's analysis, Pierce's mind raced with ideas.
He turned sharply toward the Hydra agent standing beside him. His voice was firm and sharp. "Do we have any racing talent among us?"
The Hydra agent immediately understood and began searching for relevant data.
His fingers tapped rapidly as information scrolled across the screen.
After a minute or two, the agent stopped and looked up at Director Pierce. "The best racer we had was the Winter Soldier, but unfortunately, he's dead.
However, I found an FBI agent with extensive racing experience."
Pierce nodded without surprise. As agents, their specialties lay elsewhere—combat, assassination—not racing.
He gestured for the agent to continue.
"This agent's name is Luke Hobbs, nicknamed 'The Rock' for his formidable physique. He's handled multiple cases chasing underground drag racing gangs and knows a lot about car races," the agent said, showing a photo of Hobbs.
Pierce glanced at the bald, muscular man in the photo, a hint of satisfaction flashing in his eyes.
He believed 'The Rock' Hobbs could demonstrate strength in the competition. After all, Hobbs was bald like him—and the luck and power of bald men should not be underestimated!
"Then let this boulder represent us in the competition," Pierce declared decisively. "At the same time, Brock Rumlow—Crossbones—will bring some people to sign up as double insurance."
Aware of the risks and unpredictability in racing competitions, Pierce chose a backup plan to ensure the Hydra's championship.
"Also," Pierce continued, "keep a 24-hour watch on Hell's Kitchen. If you find any suspicious contestants, eliminate them quietly or detain them for 48 hours. Make sure they don't threaten us."
Pierce knew those entering such a competition probably weren't clean. Even if they were, they could be charged with reckless driving or assaulting officers on his turf.
This wasn't the first time troublemakers had appeared.
"Remember," Pierce emphasized, voice icy and resolute, "the champion must be ours! Whatever the cost!"
His tone was ruthless, leaving no room for doubt.
"Yes, sir!"
"For Hydra! Hail Hydra!" Pierce shouted.
The room echoed with cries of "Hail Hydra!" from everyone—including Reed.
Only Kadoya remained silent.
Kadoya looked at those shouting with a playful smirk and thought, "This Hydra must be the Great Shocker of this world. How interesting."
Of course, it wasn't only S.H.I.E.L.D. reacting—others had noticed the Hell's Kitchen Racing Competition and were already making moves.
