The morning sky was painted in a pale hue of silver and blue as dawn broke across the northern wilds. The group had broken camp early, with Elsa leading the way. The journey ahead was clear now: follow the route to the Dam, cross the Lichen Meadows, and reach the Enchanted Forest.
Each step they took brought them closer to the truth.
A River Once Crossed
They followed a half-frozen stream that twisted and turned, fed by a glacier from the North Mountain. At a bend in the path, a massive stone structure came into view—the Dam. It stood silent and unmoving, a relic of another time.
Anna stopped in her tracks, a strange look in her eyes. "This is the place from the story our father told us… the dam built as a gift."
Ethan narrowed his eyes at it. "It doesn't look like a gift."
Elsa stepped closer, pressing her palm against the cold stone. The hum returned. Louder. Closer.
Suddenly, her magic reacted—snowflakes danced around her hand in rapid swirls, glowing faintly with a bluish light. A surge of emotion flooded through her.
"It's more than a dam," she said. "It's part of the forest. Part of the past."
Olaf, perched on Sven's back, blinked. "So… not a good dam?"
"Hard to say," Kristoff muttered, keeping a hand on his axe. "But we're not here to destroy it."
"No," Elsa agreed. "But we may have to understand why it was built."
They crossed it slowly, each plank groaning under the weight of time. On the other side, the ground opened into wild grasslands—the Lichen Meadows.
The Whispering Wind
As they walked across the open field, the wind grew erratic—whipping around them, tugging at cloaks and hair. The air carried voices, faint and fleeting.
Anna shivered. "Did you hear that?"
"I did," Ethan replied, eyes narrowing.
Elsa stopped again. The wind circled her. A single leaf spiraled toward her feet, glowing faintly. Then, a flurry of wind picked it up again—dancing through the meadow. A moment later, it darted toward the horizon… and vanished into the mist.
"It's leading us," Elsa said softly. "The spirits are watching."
Olaf tilted his head. "Why do I feel like they're judging me?"
Kristoff smirked. "Because they probably are."
The Mist Wall
By midday, they reached the edge of the Enchanted Forest. Towering trees stretched upward, branches forming a tangled canopy. But between them and the trees… was a wall of mist.
It pulsed faintly, like a living thing. Thick, gray, and impenetrable.
Elsa took a breath and stepped forward. The mist reached out like fingers toward her.
Then it parted.
A pathway opened.
"Whoa," Anna whispered. "Did you do that?"
Elsa shook her head. "No. It was waiting."
Ethan looked around. "So, do we just… walk in?"
"Together," Anna said.
With slow steps, they entered the forest.
The mist swallowed them whole.
Inside the Forest
Inside, it was quiet.
The sounds of birds and wind were gone. The trees stood tall, their trunks ancient and twisted. Shafts of light pierced through the canopy like golden spears. The air was thick with magic.
They walked cautiously, eyes scanning for movement.
Suddenly, the ground rumbled.
"Earthquake?" Kristoff asked, steadying himself.
"No," Elsa said. "Something's here."
From the shadows, a gust of wind shot past, pulling Olaf into the air.
"Wheeeee—wait, no, help!" Olaf cried as he was spun in a circle.
Elsa reached out with her hand, sending a burst of ice to anchor him to the ground.
The wind stopped.
The forest was watching.
The Northuldra
Moments later, figures emerged from the trees—bow drawn, spears in hand.
They were warriors. Dressed in fur and leather, their faces wary.
One of them, a woman with sharp eyes and braids down her back, stepped forward.
"Who are you?"
Elsa held up her hand in peace. "My name is Elsa. This is my sister, Princess Anna of Arendelle. We've come to understand the past."
The woman studied them. "You should not be here."
"We don't want to fight," Ethan said firmly.
Behind them, a voice called out. An elder stepped forward—his face lined with time, his cloak marked with elemental symbols.
"I know that voice," he said, looking at Elsa. "You are her daughter."
Elsa blinked. "My mother?"
He nodded. "Iduna. She saved one of ours. And in doing so… she changed the forest."
Gasps came from behind them.
"She came from the forest," Anna whispered.
A Forgotten Bond
As night approached, the group was invited to rest near the Northuldra's camp. Fires crackled and soft drums beat a low rhythm. The Northuldra sang a haunting tune—one of remembrance.
Elsa sat near the fire, staring into the flames. The hum had quieted, but she knew this was just the beginning.
Anna and Ethan sat close, sharing quiet words. Kristoff offered carrots to Sven. Olaf listened intently to Northuldra stories, nodding sagely.
Before sleep took them, the elder turned to Elsa.
"The truth lies ahead. But to face it, you must go alone."
Elsa nodded.
She had known this was coming.
