Chapter 33 - Trial of the Heirs

"We are forged in battle, yes… but we are defined by what we do when battle fails."

— Eon Thalor

Scene 1: The Call

The Five sat together, uncertain but united.

Suddenly, the sky split again.

But this time, it wasn't Eon Thalor who appeared.

It was another of the 7.

Threnos Malakar — Keeper of Absolute Memory.

His presence turned the light cold.

His voice echoed through all five minds:

"One of you will bend."

"One of you will break."

"Let's see who you are beneath the fire."

Scene 2: The Memory Trial Chamber

The Five were transported into five separate domains —

Each one a construct of their own worst truth.

They would not face enemies.

They would face themselves.

Scene 3: Kaien's Trial — Fear of Becoming Another Rahul

Kaien stood in a version of the Eternal Dominion, but it was burning.

Everyone bowed to him.

Everyone feared him.

His siblings were silent statues. Olivia was gone.

And across from him stood Rahul — not angry, not smiling — just watching.

"You tried to do it better," the illusion said.

"But all power ends the same."

"You are me."

Kaien clenched his fists.

"No."

"I will never become a man who had to be alone to be strong."

He turned his back on the illusion.

The world shook.

Trial passed.

Scene 4: Olivia's Trial — The Voice That Isn't Hers

She stood in a sky filled with music.

Voices called her "Goddess." "Balance." "The Starborn."

But her own voice was gone.

No one knew her name.

She reached into her chest and pulled out the pendant — it shattered into starlight, revealing a mirror.

Her reflection asked:

"If you are only what you give to others, do you even exist?"

She whispered:

"I am Olivia."

"Not their title. Not their balance. Just… me."

Her voice returned.

Trial passed.

Scene 5: The Orphan's Trial — You Were Never Meant to Win

He saw a past where no one cared he survived.

He screamed at empty gods. Fought against shadows.

A voice said:

"You're not chosen. You're a fluke."

He spat back:

"Exactly. And I still made it here."

Trial passed.

Scene 6: The Servant's Trial — Loyalty or Freedom

She stood before the family that enslaved her.

They offered her a throne — if she'd kneel again.

She bowed…

Then shattered the illusion beneath her heel.

"You don't crown me. I do."

Trial passed.

Scene 7: The Unknown's Trial — ???

Nothing could be seen.

Only a single whisper from the void:

"I remember."

No one else saw what happened in that trial.

But when the Unknown returned, their eyes glowed differently.

Even Eon raised an eyebrow.

Final Scene: Reunited — and Changed

The five stood once more on solid ground.

Threnos Malakar spoke:

"You are not heirs because you were chosen."

"You are heirs because you chose yourselves."

He looked directly at Kaien.

"Rahul never passed this trial."

And then he vanished.

Eon Thalor returned with a solemn nod.

"You are no longer five who rose."

"You are now Five Who Remain."
