Chapter 48 - Escaping The Army

"Sir with the fog we've lost track of the students sir", Commander Hayes said as he approached Mercer.

"I see, go try to round up the men. I'll clear up this fog soon." Mercer told Commander Hayes.

"Yes Sir", Commander Hayes replied before going off into the fog.

Mercer just sighed to himself, recognizing the mistakes he made. He can feel that there is a small army guarding the entrance to the academy. He should've trained Sami when he was younger, instead of being in all of these near death situations.

No point about complaining about past choices. Right now he has to clear this fog, and try to save as many of the men as possible. With his will resolute he started to spin his staff.

"Dissipa Caligo(Disperse Fog)", Mercer chanted as heavy rain began to come from the spin staff.

Once cleared Mercer stopped spin his staff, though the sky began to darken. Multiple arrows were beginning to rain down on the group.

"I'm getting to old for this shit", muttered Mercer as he began to prepare a shielding spell.

Multiple arrows began to rain upon Sami's shield, as keep his eyes closed concentrating on keeping the shield intact. Lyra and Poke noticed that the fog was cleared yet didn't comment on it.

Both were trying to keep calm and not distract Sami as the sky was darkened by the amount of arrows being shot at them.

KLANG!

The sound of metal scrapping metal, over and over as Sami's shield held strong from the attack. Lyra and Poke both looked in awe as the shield continued to hold strong.

"Holyshit bookworm how the hell did you know we'd be attacked", Lyra exclaimed in shock as she watched the arrows bounce off the shields.

"That… is…a.. tough ..question.. To… answer.. At.. the.. Moment", Sami said, his voice straining.

The ring on Sami's hand glowed momentarily before laying docile once again. The fatigue he felt slowly going away as the arrows kept falling down.

"It's like a now stop arrows", Poke whispered to Lyra.

Lyra nodded in agreement, "Yeah, whatever that witch has planned she definitely doesn't want us to reach the academy walls."

Sami didn't add anything to the conversation, as his full focus on stopping the arrows from hitting the group.

What felt like hours, but was merely minutes the arrows began to slow to a crawl. Finally stopping with one last ""dink" off Sami's shields. Sami, not feeling any danger, quickly dropped the shield. Sweating poured down his face as he gripped both of his knees taking in deep breathes.

Poke, ignoring Sami's plight, stood up from the ground as he looked around at the destruction. Only ten knights and Mercer remained standing, none of the horses remained alive with most having various arrows sticking out from them.

"You sense don't you. You're strong enough to leave the school. Hell if you finally give into me we can eventually be one.", the voice from Poke's head chuckled.

"I listened to you and got my teammates killed", Poke thought screaming at the voice. "I'm liked by everyone, and I don't need your choices affecting mine"

"Soon you'll know the real truth, and when you come to me willingly", the voice sneered before leaving.

Lyra noticed Poke stumble for a moment before righting himself. Seeing that he was okay she checked on Sami who was right next to her. Though he was breathing heavily it seemed that he was doing okay.

"Multiple… small.. Creatures.. Attacking.. From… my… left..", Sami told the other two.

"What creatures bookworm", Lyra commented as she slowly got to her feet. Her ribs are still aching from the abuse she's been putting them through.

"Um guys", Poke interrupted before Sami had a chance to respond. "I see the creatures coming at us now.

Lyra finally to her feet, turned the same way Poke was facing. Her jaw dropped in shock at the small figures rushing towards them. Some barely reaching up to her waste, but she counted at least two hundred.

"GOBLINS ARE COMING!"She shouted as she pulled Sami to his feet.

"I thought goblins went extinct one hundred years ago?," Poke inquired as he allowed Sami to lean on him. Taking the burden off of Lyra so she could keep moving.

"I don't know Poke", Lyra responded utterly confused at the situation.

The group soon made way for the remaining knights, all with their shields up surrounding Mercer. Noticing the students, the knights allowed them through to Mercer.

"Headmaster", Poke said. "We are very out numbered we saw numerous amounts of goblins coming up the hill."

Mercer noticed Sami's drained look as Poke still held him up. He also saw Lyra holding her side, flinching every so often from pain. Knowing Lyra can heal herself she must be really drained from fighting early to not be able to now.

Mercer thought to himself for a moment, clenching his staff tightly. While he could wipe out everyone, they will still have to deal with the cyclops if they're still chasing. It wouldn't be smart to risk more lives.

"We won't make it to the gates of the school in time so, I'll set up a teleport circle around myself," Mercer explained. "It'll take a few minutes but it should go off before the entire army gets here."

"Ugh, fine we'll hold out for as long as we can old man!"Lyra replied. "You just concentrate on hearing and getting us out of here."

"Sigh she never respects me", Mercer thought to himself.

The soldiers already had their shields up as small heads could be seen getting closer.

"Argrgrgag", could be heard from the groups as the first wave of goblins go closer to them.

"Oh how lovely", Morwen sang to herself as she followed behind the first wave of the goblins.

She had the cyclops stay back and stop throwing rocks so as to not accidently hit the small army she gathered. Oh the thrill she feels at seeing the small amount of destruction from what she has caused so far.

She watched as the goblins began to clash with the rest of the knights. Quickly cut down one after the other. Their green blood began to soak the blood as the knights ruthlessly cut them down.

Morwen could only chuckle as she watched the pitiful army being slaughtered. Her goal now is to capture one of the students, preferably the girl. Truthfully she doesn't even need any of the students.

She's just doing this to cause more chaos because the real prize ensuing is doubt among the hire ups. Make them believe another war is going to start. It doesn't matter.

"So many plans, So little time", She chuckled.

"Hold out sixty more seconds", Mercer shouted out. He was bent over on writing runes into the ground.

"Sir" the knights responded as they kept on fighting.

Sami, having recovered, was fighting alongside the knights along with Poke. For once using a weapon, having summoned a sword like Lyra. He began cutting down as many goblins as he could.

As he cut down one, two would replace their place yet pushed on. Sami was afraid of magic in fear of hitting the others near him. He vowed to study more of the magical language along with magical control after all of this is over.

"Duck bookworm", Lyra shouted

As soon as Sami heard those words he activated his ghost mode, soon three swords went flying through his body. Taking out about twenty goblins clearing a small path in front of the group fighting.

Lyra came to stand by Sami's side as she summoned a sword to her hand. Though still holding on to her side.

"Shouldn't you be resting?"Sami asked as he glanced at Lyra from the side.

"Pssh yeah right, and let you have all the fun never", Responded Lyra as she ran ahead to meet the next wave of goblins.

Sami couldn't help but chuckle as he joined her, the two of them cutting down the goblins before they made it to the group of knights.

"Commander, look at them go", a knight commented as looked at the two of them fighting.

Commander Hayes didn't respond to the comment as he looked at the students fighting. Those two were single handedly clearing out the goblins without much help from the rest.

"Everyone retreat! The teleport will be happening in thirty seconds!."Mercer told the group.

"You two students return, the teleport is coming soon."Commander Hayes shouted out to them.

"Oh my already going before the fun could finish.", Morwen's voice echoed from around the duo.

"Ugh come on already lady why won't you just fuck all the way off", Lyra shouted throwing her sword killing the last five remaining goblins.

"What would be the fun in that", Morwen giggled, the sound coming off eerie as it echoed around them.

"Come on Lyra let's go", Sami said as he dragged her arm.

"Lyra what a nice name hahah", Morwen commented at the retreating duo's back.

Sami and Lyra quickly returned to the group of knights as everyone put down their weapons. Soon a bright light began to overtake the group as one by one starting with Mercer everyone began to disappear.

"Do you honestly think I'll let you go little girl", Morwen said as Lyra's body went flying from the light.
