Axel slid into the driver's seat of his car, still visibly fuming from what had just happened inside the school. His jaw was tight, his eyes fixed ahead as if he was replaying the confrontation over and over in his mind. Marlon got in on the passenger side, closing the door more softly than usual, as if not to provoke Axel further. Without saying a word, Axel reached over, lifted Jaimie from his lap, and carefully placed him into Marlon's arms.
Jaimie looked up at Axel with wide, uncertain eyes. "Daddy Axel… are you angry at me?" he asked quietly.
That question pulled Axel's gaze away from the road. He turned to face the boy immediately. "No, baby. No," he said firmly, shaking his head. "I will never be angry with you."
Jaimie gave a small nod, still unsure, but the answer seemed to settle him a little.
Marlon glanced at Axel from the passenger seat. "So, big brother," he asked, "what are you planning to do now?"
