The homeroom teacher's voice was steady, but her words did nothing to cool Axel's anger. "I don't know what caused their fight," she said. "I was at a staff meeting. When I came back, I found them fighting."
Axel's eyes hardened. "And you didn't think to ask them what caused the fight? What kind of teacher are you?"
Her lips pressed together before she answered. "Please, Mr. Axel, stop being unreasonable and let me finish my sentence."
For a moment, Axel almost retorted. Unreasonable? What kind of parent stayed calm when they find their child all bruised and scraped? But he forced himself to stay silent, choosing instead to hear her out.
"I already asked them why they were fighting," she continued. "No matter how many times I asked, neither of them said anything. The other boy, however, kept insisting your son started it."
