Chapter 17 - Chapter 7: Forest Demoness! The End of an Old Era (Part 3)

"Dinar depreciation, do Demon Hunters not have any money?" Duncan chuckled a bit.

As expected from the Empire.

A faint sound came from the adjacent room, the witch's mark moved, she stepped out of the door and stood in the hallway for several seconds. Then she paused for a moment in front of Duncan's door and silently headed out of the inn.

"Should I follow and see?"

The witch had already left the inn, Duncan hesitated slightly but followed her.

From a map-view perspective, he didn't need to be too close, as long as he stayed within the map view range, the witch shouldn't be able to detect him.

Duncan controlled his character's movements with his mind, quietly following from an observer's perspective, maintaining a distance of about one hundred fifty meters.

In the barn, on the haystack, the gold-starred Demon Hunter flipped up.

"Is his perception that sharp?" Duncan became instantly alert.

But from the map-view perspective, the Demon Hunter also stealthily crouched and followed, keeping a distance of about fifty meters, moving cautiously as if afraid of being discovered by Duncan.

It's one following another.

The witch made no sound as she moved, drifting ghost-like, if Duncan hadn't had his cheat activated, he wouldn't have noticed at all. The Demon Hunter didn't trace the witch but sensed Duncan's footsteps, thus indirectly tracking the witch's trail.

"What is she going to do?" Duncan wondered slightly.

The witch departed from the town, entering the dense forest; without the map-view, Duncan would have already lost her.

It wasn't known how far they walked when moonlight poured down from the sky.

A tall oak tree appeared ahead.

In Duncan's map-view, the witch had already removed her mask, revealing a face so beautiful it seemed almost surreal, like a Succubus from legends captivating all beings. Her exposed skin on her neck and collarbones was so white it almost glimmered, akin to porcelain; such skin was rare even among the most pampered noblewomen of this era.

"Priest, save me!"

At this moment, an unclear silhouette emerged in the open woodland ahead, displaying a beautiful woman's outline. Her features gradually became clearer as she stepped out from the oak tree's shadow, kneeling before the witch pleading, "Save me!"

Hmm?!

Duncan's pupils slightly dilated.

——Forest Demoness (Tree Spirit) [Neutral]!

In Greek mythology, Forest Demonesses, also known as Tree Spirits or Forest Goddesses, refer to lower status, young and beautiful Natural Spirits. They live on mountain tops (Oleander Mountain), by springs and rivers (Naiad River) or within forest trees (Driaden Forest), symbolizing the irrational and animalistic side of humanity. It's said each oak tree inhabits a spirit that conveys oracles to humans through Forest Demonesses.

Another Supernatural Unit.

But she only has a one-star mark, presumably not very strong in combat.

The witch slightly frowned and shook her head, "I am not a Priest."

"The era of Priests is past."

As the Forest Demoness showed a hint of pity and despair, the witch softly asked, "What danger have you encountered?"

Upon hearing the witch's words, the Forest Demoness seemed to cling to the last shred of hope, her voice melancholic, "Witch Hunter!"

"The Church's Witch Hunter."

"They intend to eradicate us completely!"

"A very powerful Witch Hunter has arrived here, he definitely won't spare me!"

"Master, save me."

Upon hearing the Forest Demoness's words, Duncan instinctively glanced back at the Demon Hunter trailing behind, noticing that he had lost track after entering the forest and fell back one or two hundred meters, but seemed proficient in tracking and gradually caught up.

However, he seems to have traced the wrong direction, bypassing Duncan, heading straight towards the witch.
