Chapter 21 - Chapter 9: The Fall of the Gods

Dimension Space.

Here is still a void cosmic starry sky, with only a giant star cloud like feathers in the endless darkness.

Duncan's consciousness returns without a physical form here.

The projection screen before him remains in a divine viewpoint. He can see the protector leader - Catus waiting below the inn, while the Crow Queen - Triss quietly pours herself a cup of tea, as if she knows everything happening next door, quietly awaiting Duncan's decision.

The Demon Hunter - George is purchasing supplies in the town, all of which are relatively cheap daily necessities, looking like he plans to leave soon.

Duncan's mind moves.

The projection screen begins to change immediately.

——"Whether to retire?"

Still a familiar scene.

A line of text gradually appears.

——"Retire [End Training]: You will sever the link with the human form and can no longer enter the real dimension through this human form. The human form will replicate a persona based on your current experiences and character, and will no longer receive additional ability upgrades."

"The Dimension Space will switch to 'Observer Mode', and your consciousness will temporarily fall asleep until the energy is fully restored, ready to capture the next compatible human form."

——"Law of Cause and Effect [Training Settlement]:

Branch one, you accepted Catus's invitation and joined Aetius's family army. Soon, you gained the family's attention with exceptional strength, adopted as a son, and bestowed the surname Aetius. You quickly made your mark at the empire's border, repeatedly gaining merits in wars against Germanic Barbarian Race, assisting in suppressing Frankish rebellion, and repelling Saxon invasions.

But the empire was already in decline, neither you nor Aetius's family could reverse the situation. With the Huns attacking once more, Barbarian Race's invasion on the empire grows increasingly severe.

God's Whip is dismembering the entire empire.

Half a year later, during a battle with Huns, you were hit by several arrows and had to retreat for recuperation, but the injuries had already caused an incurable chronic illness.

Three months later, in lower Germania, you were besieged by Barbarian Race rebels, killed more than ten, and died from exhaustion.

You left your name in history as one of the most outstanding adopted sons under the Roman Protectorate 'Aetius', considered by historians.

Hmm?

The last Roman - Aetius?

Duncan struggled to recall, but knew little. He seemed to be the last famed general at the empire's end, but his fate was being murdered by the empire's emperor.

The empire's emperor changed quite frequently, first backed by the army, assassinated by Imperial Guard, then Barbarian Race became the emperor, poisoned, suicided, dethroned, anyway the emperor position rotated among everyone. If it weren't for the Barbarian Race assimilating into the empire's interior, it wouldn't have lasted until now.

God's Whip?

This Duncan knew, the emperor of the Huns - Attila, it's in history books, Barbarian Race's invasion largely resulted from the Huns migrating to Europe and Asia, indirectly leading to the empire's destruction.

"But here it's clearly a parallel world. It's unclear if historical trajectory will deviate."

No doubt.

This ending is much better than the last, at least no longer a beggar, more or less considered a basic empire leader, dying gloriously in battle is better than dying sickly on the street.

"What about branch two?"

"Why does the law of cause and effect projection take so much longer than the previous one? Is it due to supernatural powers?"

Duncan waited for a moment.

Only then did the settlement of branch two's law of cause and effect appear on the projection interface.

"Branch two, you agreed to go with the Crow Queen - Triss to the British Isles, where outside the empire's vast territory, old era's dark powers still linger. You encountered many legendary monsters and, with Crow Queen - Triss's help, killed supernatural creatures such as giants, ghouls, half-giants, sea demons, and more.

Gradually, you had your own legend in the British Isles.

You became friends with the legendary wizard - Merlin, witnessed King Arthur's birth and growth, received Crow Queen - Triss's love, and the extreme pleasure she brought made you gradually lose interest in other women.

But witches almost never bore offspring. As you entered middle age, you were gradually beguiled by the Lake Fairy, and distanced yourself from Crow Queen - Triss.

To seek the foretold tranquil kingdom protecting kindred through the Dark Ages, Crow Queen - Triss began planning to explore worlds beyond the sea. She built a large ship in the British Isles and set sail overseas with her witch followers to find the 'Iceland' you spoke of.

At the last moment, you awoke and realized that your true lifelong love was Triss, with whom you faced numerous crises and dangers. You eventually abandoned everything and boarded that ocean-going ship.

Through dangers and difficulties.

You narrowly escaped being hunted by the North Sea giant monster, found Iceland still undiscovered by colonizers.

But this place was inhabited by terrifying monsters who settled here avoiding humans during the Mythical Era. You faced the largest crisis ever, a mature evil dragon, and Crow Queen - Triss fought to the death to protect you.

In the final battle, you found your sword and arrows couldn't pierce the giant dragon's scales.

Only then you realized you were merely a slightly stronger ordinary person.

All along, it was Crow Queen - Triss silently shielding you, and the legend and fame you possessed were all bestowed upon you by Triss, forging your legendary tale in the British Isles.
