"You all are going to come with me, gentlemen," Essex said as he stepped into the warehouse, calmly adjusting the sleeves of his immaculate suit.
"I would strongly prefer that you cooperate peacefully. There is no reason for this situation to become unnecessarily unpleasant. However, if you refuse, I will unfortunately have to take drastic measures, and I assure you that neither of you will particularly enjoy those measures."
Deadpool slowly raised one pistol. "I appreciate the polite kidnapping approach. It has a certain charm. Most kidnappers don't bother with manners anymore. They just throw a bag over your head and start driving. You, on the other hand, are basically kidnapping with customer service."
Logan's claws extended with a metallic snap. "Nobody's going anywhere with you."
Essex smiled. "I expected that answer."
Kakashi, however, wasn't listening to the conversation. His attention was fixed on the red-haired woman standing beside Essex. Something about her bothered him. He had seen that face before.
He couldn't immediately remember where, but there was something familiar about the woman's features, her posture, and most importantly, the feeling that seemed to surround her. It was as though his instincts were warning him about something his conscious mind hadn't yet remembered.
Then the woman raised one hand. The entire warehouse exploded.
A tremendous invisible force ripped through the building as steel beams twisted and concrete walls collapsed inward. Kakashi immediately activated his Sharingan and jumped backward, while Logan and Deadpool were thrown through the air. Deadpool crashed through a stack of wooden crates, while Logan slammed into a concrete pillar hard enough to crack it.
Kakashi landed on a metal beam just as a massive section of the ceiling ripped loose and flew toward him. His eye tracked the debris, and he immediately recognized the force controlling it.
It was Telekinesis.The woman casually moved her hand. The debris changed direction in midair and came screaming toward him.
Kakashi vanished through Kamui. The enormous chunk of concrete passed through his intangible body and smashed into the opposite wall.
His eyes widened in recognition of who this power belonged to.
"Jean Grey of this universe," Kakashi whispered.
Kakashi remembered how easily she had overwhelmed him. His techniques and jutsus had meant almost nothing against her. She had thrown him around as though he were a child.
And then there had been the Phoenix.
The cosmic force that had merged with Jean Grey.
Kakashi remembered how she had just destroyed Earth of the X men universe as she could not control her anger and power.
And then he remembered his friend from that universe, Pietro who had died.
For a brief moment, the warehouse around him disappeared and he was back there again, watching the world die.
Then Kakashi shook his hands sharply, forcing himself out of the memory.
This wasn't that Jean. This wasn't that universe. And this woman wasn't necessarily the Phoenix. But she possessed enough power to remind him exactly why he needed to take her seriously.
Kakashi landed beside Logan and Deadpool.
"Stay back," he said.
Logan looked at him. "Who is she?"
Kakashi's eyes remained fixed on the red-haired woman. "She's very, very dangerous."
Deadpool pointed toward the woman. "You say that about a lot of people, but your eye is doing the spinning thing, so I'm guessing this one is actually terrifying."
Kakashi ignored him. "Don't engage her unless you absolutely have to."
Madelyn stepped forward. Then she lifted both hands. A wave of telekinetic energy erupted from her body.
Logan and Deadpool were thrown backward as if they had been hit by a speeding truck. Logan's claws dug into the concrete floor, carving deep lines through it as he struggled to stop himself. Deadpool wasn't nearly as successful.
He flew through the warehouse and crashed through another wall. His voice echoed from the rubble. "I would like to formally complain about the woman with invisible hands!"
Kakashi barely heard him. Madelyn was already attacking him.
Hundreds of pieces of debris rose into the air around her. Everything began spinning around her like a storm.
Kakashi formed hand seals.
"Earth Style: Earth Wall!"
A massive wall erupted from the ground.
Madelyn merely looked at it. The wall tore itself apart.
Kakashi immediately jumped aside as thousands of fragments shot toward him.
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
Dozens of Kakashi clones appeared. The debris tore through them one after another.
Smoke filled the warehouse. The real Kakashi emerged from the smoke and launched a volley of kunai.
Madelyn raised her hand. Every kunai stopped in midair. She looked at the weapons floating before her. Then she sent them flying back.
Kakashi activated Kamui. The kunais passed through his body.
He reappeared behind her and formed a Chidori. Lightning screamed around his hand. He drove it toward her back.
A telekinetic barrier formed between them. The Chidori struck the invisible wall.
Kakashi's eyes narrowed. Madelyn pushed her hand forward. He was launched across the warehouse.
He twisted in midair and landed on one foot.
"That's going to make this difficult," he muttered.
Deadpool crawled out of the rubble. "I'm glad you noticed!"
Kakashi ignored him. He needed to make her use more of her powers.
He formed another set of seals.
"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!"
A massive fireball erupted toward Madelyn. She lifted one hand. The fireball stopped.
Then it compressed into a tiny sphere before disappearing.
Kakashi's eye narrowed further.
"Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!"
A powerful blast of wind tore through the warehouse. Madelyn's hair moved slightly.
That was all. The attack dispersed around her. Kakashi immediately followed with lightning.
"Lightning Style: Lightning Beast Tracking Fang!"
A massive lightning wolf charged toward her.
Madelyn caught it with telekinesis. The lightning creature struggled against the invisible force before being crushed into nothing.
Madelyn raised both hands.
Kakashi's instincts screamed. He activated Kamui just as an enormous telekinetic wave struck him.
The force passed through his intangible body and destroyed everything behind him.
Kakashi reappeared. He attacked again.
Not because he expected to hurt her.
Because he wanted to make her angry.
Every attack forced Madelyn to exert more power. She destroyed everything he threw at her.
Kakashi kept pushing. Deadpool watched from behind a fallen beam. "Is your plan seriously to annoy the psychic woman until she gets tired?"
Kakashi didn't look at him.
Madelyn's expression hardened. Her eyes began glowing.
Kakashi immediately understood. He had pushed her far enough. Red energy began gathering around her. It wasn't ordinary telekinesis anymore.
The entire warehouse shook as an immense crimson aura surrounded her.
Essex's expression changed. "Madelyn, don't kill him!"
Madelyn didn't even look at him. The energy continued to grow.
Essex stepped forward. "Madelyn, listen to me. I need him alive!"
She ignored him. The crimson energy erupted.
A massive wave of psychic power tore across the warehouse.
Kakashi let the attack hit him. His body began disintegrating to ash.
Deadpool shouted his name. "Kakashi!"
Essex watched with horror. His specimen was dying. But Kakashi had used the last Mangekyō ability that he had awakened at the last second.
"Meikyō."
Kakashi's eye focused directly on Madelyn.
The ability activated. Every injury Kakashi had suffered was reflected back upon the person his eye was targeting.
The flames consuming his body transferred.
The immense psychic force tearing him apart, all of it returned to its source.
Madelyn suddenly screamed. Her body erupted into paychic flames.
Essex stared in disbelief as Madelyn's skin burned away, her body collapsing beneath the reflected destruction.
"No." He rushed forward but his most priced clone disappeared beneath the flames.
Within seconds, nothing remained except ash.
