The invisible jets circled around New York. They moved silently through the sky like ghosts that no one could see with normal eyes.

The Avengers stood together in the main hall of the tower, watching everything on large holographic screens provided by Jarvis. The images showed slight ripples in the air where the jets passed, giving away their positions.

Tony said, "That's some great cloaking device. We can only detect them because of the air movement. Not even the infrared detection devices are detecting something." He sounded impressed as he studied the data closely.

His eyes moved quickly across the screens while he made small adjustments to the display. He then looked at Kakashi and Bruce. "Make sure not to destroy the ships. We can learn a lot from their technology. If we bring one down carefully, I can take it apart and see how their cloaking works. That kind of tech could change everything for our defenses."

Kakashi said with a nod, "I will be careful." He kept his voice steady, already thinking about how to fight without causing too much damage to the enemy ships.

Bruce said with sarcasm, "You are talking to the wrong guy. Tell that to the big guy." He gave a small tired smile.

"The Hulk does not exactly do gentle. If he comes out, those ships might end up as crushed soda cans. I will try to stay calm, but no promises if things get too crazy. Last time I got angry, half a city block paid the price. So yeah, maybe aim your instructions at the green guy instead of me."

Jarvis voice echoed through the room, "Sirs, the ships seemed to be locating something and seemed to have found it. They are heading straight towards us."

The screens showed the invisible jets changing direction and moving faster toward the Avengers Tower.

"Well, it seems the theory of them wanting the Infinity Stone is true. The attack on Asgard is a distraction to prevent them from sending an army to protect Earth," Cap said.

"Well then, how do we proceed?" Hawkeye asked. He already had arrows ready in his quiver and was scanning the skies through the windows.

Tony said with a grin, "It's time to test the barrier." He gave the command with excitement in his voice. "Activate the barrier, Jarvis."

"As you wish sir," Jarvis replied smoothly.

Kakashi watched from the window as a blue barrier enveloped the Avengers Tower. The energy shield appeared suddenly, glowing with a soft but powerful light.

It covered the entire building like a protective bubble made of pure energy. Kakashi studied it carefully, noting how steady and strong it looked.

'Ah so he has made use of the tessaract finally. This might be the prototype barrier. Once he has mastered this technique, he would be able to deploy it for the entire Earth.' Kakashi thought

The invisible jets fired blasts at the tower from different directions. Bright energy shots hit the blue barrier again and again.

Each blast created small flashes of light where they struck, but the barrier did not even shake. The jets kept circling and firing, trying to find any weak spot, but the barrier held firm every single time. Small explosions of light lit up the sky around the tower, but the building and everyone inside remained completely safe.

People on the streets below looked up in confusion and amazement at the strange light show happening high above them.

Some of the aliens jumped out of the jets to see if they could walk through the barrier. They floated in the air with advanced suits and tried to push their hands through the blue energy wall. The barrier stopped them easily, pushing them back like an invisible hand.

A few tried shooting at it up close, but the results were the same. After several failed attempts, they flew back to their ships, clearly frustrated. The Avengers watched all of this carefully from inside.

"Well, there is no doubt about the power of this barrier but you might have to lower the barrier. We do not want them firing at the city. Let them through," Kakashi said. He knew that if the fight stayed outside, innocent people on the streets could get hurt by stray attacks.

Tony nodded and instructed Jarvis to create a small entryway for the aliens to enter the barrier and the tower. A narrow opening appeared in the shield, just big enough for the enemy ships to come closer. The invisible jets moved through the gap one by one and landed near the tower's upper levels.

They saw the creatures that came out of the jet. The beings had pale white skin and dark armor. "At least they are not as ugly as the Chitauri and they do not seem to be part machines but what are they?" Tony asked while scanning them with his suit's systems.

Kakashi browsed through his mental memory of Kamar-Taj library and finally found the race. "Dark Elves," Kakashi said.

"Elves like in those fantasy things with long ears... as a kid I always fantasized of having an elf waifu....." Tony said.

"You know, the beautiful ones with perfect skin and magical bows who fall in love with the charming inventor. I used to read those books under my blanket at night. I imagined myself riding a magical horse with my elf princess while building cool gadgets in a tree house palace."

He kept going with a big grin. "I mean, look at them. Sure, they are trying to kill us now, but maybe one of them is secretly a misunderstood dark elf princess who will switch sides after seeing my charm. I could build her a special suit with glowing runes. We would be the power couple of the nine realms. Pepper would understand. Or maybe not. But a man can dream, right?" Everyone looked at him weirdly at that.

"I am definitely telling Pepper that," Natasha said with a small smirk.

"Tattle tale," Tony said, blowing raspberries like a child before laughing at himself. "She already knows I am a handful. This will just add to my charm points."

"They are not as beautiful as I thought them to be. And where are the female ones?" He asked while still looking out the window.

Kakashi said, "The Dark Elves are among the oldest known species in existence, hailing from the realm Svartalfheim. They are one of the mortal enemies of the Asgardians. They are supposed to be extinct though according to what I know." He explained a bit more about their history of war with Asgard and their hatred for light and life.

They then saw a very big creature jumping out of one of the ships and entering the Avengers Tower. The monster was huge with thick armor and glowing red eyes. It landed heavily on the floor, shaking the entire level slightly.

"Do you know what that is?" Tony asked worriedly. He scanned the creature but got unclear results.

"Whatever it is, it looks like trouble," Cap said while raising his shield.

"Well then, let's meet our guests, shall we. I will take the big one," Kakashi said and then disappeared in a body flicker. He moved so fast that the others barely saw him leave.

"Aww, I was waiting for him to say Avengers assemble but whatever," Tony said with disappointment. He sighed and put on his suit. "I guess I will have to do the cool line myself next time. The people deserve a proper show when we save the world."

"Clint and I would protect the kids," Natasha said. She picked up her weapons and moved quickly toward the lower levels where the mutant children were staying.

Cap, Creel, Bruce, and Blonsky nodded and they too left. The team split up with clear purpose, each heading to face the invading Dark Elves in different parts of the tower.
