Chapter 196 - Chapter 195: Reality Stone?

Bruce, Hank, and Tony took Jane to the scanners in the medical room of the Avengers Tower.

Jane lay on the examination bed looking nervous but trying to stay calm. She kept glancing at Thor for comfort while the three bookworms worked quickly.

Bruce looked at one of the X-ray scanners that showed some thick liquid being flown through her veins. The image was clear and worrying. The substance moved differently from normal blood.

Hank said, "Definitely not blood. It is moving faster than blood and way thicker than that. It does not seem to be harming her yet but if it continues she would soon develop cancer..." His voice was serious as he studied the readings.

He adjusted some controls on the machine to get a better view of the strange fluid. Everyone in the room felt the tension rise immediately.

Thor looked horrified at that. "What... the mortals' deadliest disease? Can... we... can I do anything to save her?"

The mighty God of Thunder, who had faced countless battles, now looked helpless when it came to the woman he loved. He stepped closer to the bed, his large hands clenched tightly at his sides.

Bruce and Hank tried to calm him down. "She is not in a dangerous position for now," they said together in reassuring voices. They explained that the liquid was stable at the moment and they had time to find solutions before any serious damage occurred.

Thor nodded but his face remained filled with concern. He kept watching Jane with protective eyes, silently promising to do everything possible to help her.

As Tony looked at the energy readings with deep thought, he suddenly had a realisation. "Oh boy... Bruce, does this reading remind you of something....." His eyes widened as he compared the data on his screen with old records.

Bruce moved over quickly and studied the numbers carefully. As Bruce looked at the readings, he realised what Tony was talking about. The energy patterns matched something they had seen before during the battle of New York.

"The Tesseract and the Space Stone. They are different but the energy power is same," Bruce said.

They both turned to Kakashi who immediately realised what that thing was. Kakashi's eyes narrowed as the pieces came together in his mind.

"It's an Infinity Stone. Either the Reality Stone or the Soul Stone," Kakashi said with realisation.

Everyone in the room went quiet as the seriousness of the situation sank in. An Infinity Stone inside a human body was extremely dangerous.

"And judging from how a stone had changed its shape from solid to liquid, I would wager it's the Reality Stone," Bruce said.

Hank asked, confused, "What are Infinity Stones?" He looked between the Avengers with genuine curiosity. As a scientist from another reality, he had never encountered such things before.

Kakashi said, "Bad news." He then took a moment to explain in simple words. "They are six stones created at the beginning of the universe. Each one controls a different fundamental power. Together they can do almost anything, including destroying entire universes."

Kakashi then looked at Bruce. "How is she surviving with an Infinity Stone in her blood? Just touching the Space Stone could have killed any one of us."

Tony said, "Hmm, her body is encompassed with the same energy as the Infinity Stone. Maybe it's the Infinity Stone keeping her alive." He scratched his chin while thinking deeply. "It seems the stone has bonded with her at a cellular level. That is why she is not dying from the power. But we still need to be extremely careful. One wrong move and the stone could react badly."

"Is there anything we could do to safely extract it from her?" Thor asked with hope in his voice.

Before anyone could reply, Thor's eyes widened. He said to thin air, "What are you sure Heimdall?" He listened carefully to the voice only he could hear through his connection with the guardian of the Bifrost. After another few seconds, Thor's expression hardened with seriousness.

"I have to go. Heimdall has just informed me that Asgard is under attack by unknown forces. Take care of Jane," Thor said and was about to call Heimdall to open the Bifrost. His hammer began to glow as he prepared to leave immediately.

"Wait, take some of us with you since we are in an alliance and all to protect each other," Kakashi said quickly. He believed in standing by allies during times of need.

"Well, it looks like the X-Men got their first mission and since it's off world, all of the X-Men team can go," Kakashi said to Logan and Hank who nodded and sent a message for Storm to get everyone previously in the X-Men to suit up. The mutants responded fast, excited for their first real mission in this new world.

After five minutes, they all had gathered as Thor shouted, "Heimdall!" The Bifrost opened in a bright rainbow of light and took Thor and the X-Men team to Asgard.

As soon as they left, everyone's attention was back to Jane and the Reality Stone but Tony's words stopped them. "It's not just Asgard under attack, it seems." Tony said while looking at new data coming in from his systems. He tapped quickly on a holographic screen that appeared in front of him.

"What do you mean?" Bruce asked with concern growing in his voice.

"I have developed some special satellites and launched them into space that would pick up any alien ships. It has systems to detect even invisible ones. And some small invisible ships are headed to Earth," Tony said. He showed the readings to the group. Several unidentified vessels were approaching their planet at high speed.

"And they are headed straight towards us..." Tony said as Jarvis gave him more data. The AI voice confirmed the trajectory, showing the ships were aiming directly at New York.

"Are they the ones attacking Asgard?" Natasha asked.

"Can't be a coincidence," Clint added while checking his arrows and preparing for action.

"But why would they attack Earth as well? Because Earth is being protected by Asgard?" Natasha asked, trying to understand the enemy's motive.

"Or because of an Infinity Stone. It would not be the first time some alien lord attacked Earth because of an Infinity Stone," Tony said as everyone had a sudden realisation.

The Reality Stone inside Jane might have sent some kind of signal that attracted these unknown attackers.
