Tony Stark hovered above the streets of New York and stared at the sky in horror.
A huge blue portal swirled high above the city. Endless waves of alien soldiers poured out.
The aliens looked like nightmares: grey skin, sharp teeth, glowing yellow eyes, and metal armour fused to their bodies. Some rode small flying ships that zipped between buildings.
Others surfed on hover chariots, firing energy blasts that blew cars apart and shattered windows.
Tony fought with everything he had. He opened every weapons port on his Mark VII suit. Hundreds of tiny missiles streaked out and exploded in bright orange fireballs.
Dozens of Chitauri soldiers turned into burning pieces that rained down on the streets. He spun in the air and fired wide repulsor beams that cut through entire squads. Explosions lit up the sky like deadly fireworks.
But the enemy kept coming. There were too many.
Then something even worse broke through the portal. A giant mechanical leviathan, longer than a city block and covered in armour plates, roared as it flew over Manhattan. It released hundreds more Chitauri on their hover chariots. The monster's shadow covered whole streets.
Tony felt real fear for the first time in years. His jokes died in his throat. He looked at the endless army and knew the truth. He could not win this alone. His suit would run out of power. He would fall. The city would burn.
He retreated to the roof of a tall building, chest heaving inside the armour. His HUD flashed red warnings about low energy.
A swirl of distorted space appeared beside him. Kakashi stepped out as if he had always been there. He looked up at the portal with calm eyes.
Tony had a thousand questions about the moment he saw the masked man, but all of them vanished. About the man's ability, who he was, how can teleport. But the circumstances were different right now and only saving New York mattered now.
Kakashi's voice was steady. "What is the situation?"
Tony gave a tired, bitter laugh. "Well, reindeer used the Tesseract and he had kidnapped a scientist and using him and the tesseract opened a portal right above my penthouse. Now we have an all-you-can-eat alien buffet crashing New York. Thor is upstairs trying to give his brother a beating. So yeah, standard Tuesday."
Tony said trying to joke to lighten his own fear. He looked at Kakashi and then asked something.
He pointed at the sky. "Hey, Kakashi, right? Tell me the truth. Does Earth have a chance against that?"
Kakashi did not answer right away. He watched a leviathan destroy a building. Screams rose from the streets below. People ran in every direction.
Then he spoke, quiet but strong.
"We always have a chance, Stark. I learned that from a loud, orange-wearing kid who never knew when to quit. He had no talent, no bloodline, nothing. Everyone told him he would never become a ninja. But he kept standing up. Every time the world knocked him down, he got back up with a bigger smile and shouted that he would never give up. That boy taught me that one day he would become Hokage so the whole village would have to respect him. He carried the weight of a demon inside him, lost his family, lost his teacher, lost friends, and still chose to protect everyone. If a single stubborn kid could change the world with nothing but guts, then we can stop these aliens. Because giving up is not an option when people are counting on us."
Tony stared at him. For once, the billionaire had no sarcastic comeback. The words hit harder than any repulsor blast.
He swallowed. "I might need to meet that student someday."
Kakashi's eye curved in a sad smile that Tony could not see. "Maybe in another life."
Kakashi looked down at the burning streets. "We need to evacuate the city before more lives are lost."
Tony shook his head. "We don't have the manpower. Police are running for cover. National Guard won't get here in time. This is an alien invasion. Everyone is scared."
Kakashi's hands moved in quick seals. "Then we make manpower."
He slammed his palm together.
"Earth Style: Multiple Earth Clone Jutsu!"
The concrete cracked. Twenty solid earth clones rose from the ground, each one an exact copy of Kakashi, headband and all.
They did not have his Sharingan, but they were strong enough to carry people and punch through Chitauri armour using chakra augmentation.
Kakashi pointed across the city. "Spread out. Get every civilian to safety outside Manhattan. Go."
The clones saluted and leapt away, moving faster than normal humans could run.
Tony watched them disappear between buildings. "Okay, that is useful."
Kakashi turned back to the sky.
Tony noticed the look. "You are not planning to fight that entire army alone, are you?"
A new voice crackled in their earpieces. "Who said he is alone?"
A quinjet roared overhead. The ramp opened and two monsters jumped out. Hulk landed first, smashing a dozen Chitauri into paste. Abomination followed, roaring and tearing a hover chariot in half with his bare hands.
Tony handed an earpiece to Kakashi.
Creel's voice came from it. He had absorbed the metal skin of the jet and leapt down, landing with a metallic clang.
"Boss! You once told us even monsters can choose to be heroes. I think fighting an alien invasion is the perfect job interview for being a hero!"
Kakashi had a smile underneath his mask as he heard that.
Captain America dropped from the jet, shield ready. He looked at the team gathering on the rooftop and nodded once.
Natasha stepped out of the smoking jet after crashing it into dozen chitauri soldiers like she was on a morning walk, guns already firing at incoming Chitauri.
Captain America said in the comms, "I never imagined that there would be more of me when I woke up in the future. I am glad to fight against an alien invasion to protect the city with you all. By the way, What did Fury call us again?"
'So fury finally managed to get his idea to reality huh. Very well, I would do the job of what Fury intented me to do.' Kakashi thought
He took one step forward. Wind whipped his silver hair. The city burned behind him, but his voice carried over to every person fighting for the city right now.
"Avengers… Assemble!"
