SIENNA
The impact never came. Everything happened so fast. One moment I was in a panic, and the next I was fully 'awake'. It was as if the world was regaining sound again, and not echoes like before. My fingers felt the soft fabric underneath me, which told me I was back in the real world.
I started to open my eyes, and the dryness in my throat hit. Oh, crap!
Something warm enveloped my hand and I tilted my head to look.
"Finally, you're awake!"
"Hmm..."
"No, don't get up!" he said and adjusted the pillow behind me. Theron now hovered over me. "How are you feeling?"
"Like... like I've been stabbed."
Theron's face grew serious—almost dumbfounded—and then he let out a low chuckle.
"Well enough to joke," but quickly, that smile faded and a scowl took over. "I'm sorry. I didn't protect you."
He let the words out with anger, lips tight.
I wanted to respond, but my mouth was terribly dry, as was my throat.
