Chapter 114 - CHAPTER 114

c114: Why Don't You Go to Heaven?

When Lei Jian and Lei Ye saw their uncle Pavilion Master Lei instead of feeling relieved, they were overwhelmed with fear.

The scene before them was unlike anything they'd ever experienced: an endless tide of enraged Electric-type Pokémon, the coordinated voices of nearly a hundred trainers issuing rapid commands, and colorful bursts of elemental energy illuminating the battlefield like an explosive aurora.

The scorched earth, cratered by repeated high-voltage attacks, was littered with fainted Pokémon many of them charred, still sparking, or unconscious.

Never in their sheltered lives had Lei Jian and Lei Ye witnessed a true, full-scale Pokémon disaster. Not even the most dramatic League battle simulcasts or films could capture the raw magnitude of the chaos here.

Their minds went blank.

Then Pavilion Master Lei turned sharply and locked eyes with Chen Xiaoxiao, his expression full of suspicion and fury.

"They're the ones," Chen Xiaoxiao confirmed firmly. "But they haven't admitted it. I'll leave them to you Zapdos still isn't neutralized. I'm heading back to the frontline."

She quickly scanned the status of her Pokémon Solgaleo, Latias, and Meowstic and upon confirming their relative safety, directed them to reinforce the defense line where Pavilion Master Lei had been commanding.

Pavilion Master Lei's already darkened face turned livid.

"Lei Jian! Lei Ye! What in Arceus's name did you take from Zapdos!?"

He roared so loudly that even the nearest trainers flinched.

Still in shock, the siblings didn't respond. Their blank stares only fueled their uncle's rage.

SMACK!

A thunderous slap landed across Lei Jian's face. The blow, powered by Pavilion Master Lei's pent-up fury and strength as an Elite-class trainer, knocked him flat to the ground.

"Uncle! Why did you hit Lei Jian!?"

Lei Ye screamed in protest, his protective instincts exploding.

But Master Lei didn't answer. Without pause, he grabbed Lei Ye by the collar and dragged Lei Jian up with his free arm.

"Why!? You still have the nerve to ask why? Look! LOOK!"

He dragged them forward, toward the battlefield.

"Look at what you've caused!"

The siblings were pulled forward roughly, and forced to witness the carnage firsthand.

All around them, exhausted Pokémon with scorched fur and singed feathers stood side by side with battered trainers. Some Pokémon had collapsed from paralysis; others, like Ampharos, Manectric, and Electabuzz, were being supported by teammates.

Even the trainers bore the marks of combat torn clothing, fresh burns, bleeding arms. Yet none of them backed down. They stayed on the front lines, directing their partners to keep the raging Electric-types from advancing further.

Lei Jian and Lei Ye's eyes turned red with guilt and horror.

But Pavilion Master Lei was far from done.

"Look further!"

Still dragging them, he marched toward the mobile logistics zone, where makeshift medbays had been set up using transport aircraft and converted Pokémon Center gear.

"Do you know what you've done?" he bellowed. "All the Pokémon Centers from nearby cities are paralyzed! The staff and medical machines have been rerouted here to treat the injured from this battlefield! That means injured Pokémon in every nearby town are now without urgent care!"

He pointed toward the medical crew nurses in Pokémon Center uniforms hurriedly operating healing machines, applying Revives, and deploying Chanseys, Audinos, and Blisseys to administer emergency healing.

Then he dragged them into the field medbay inside one of the planes.

And there it was:

The devastation neither of them had expected.

Dozens of beds, each with trainers lying still many with burned skin, fractured bones, or unconscious from thunder shock.

Medical staff hovered at every bedside, injecting Full Restores, applying potions, and performing emergency treatments using field-class diagnostic tech.

Even the bed sheets had been stained with blood.

(Though serious, these injuries were not fatal similar to the critical-yet-survivable states portrayed in intense battles in the Pokémon anime and manga.)

"Look at them."

Pavilion Master Lei's voice dropped. It cracked with restrained fury.

"LOOK at what you did."

The siblings froze in place. Their legs gave out, and they knelt to the floor, trembling.

Their eyes were wide, glassy, overcome with guilt.

At that moment, a nurse stepped forward with a glare and sternly pushed them back outside the tent. The battlefield medical staff didn't care if you were a Gym Leader or Champion the medbay was sacred, and they wouldn't tolerate distractions.

Pavilion Master Lei said nothing to the nurse. Her restraint in not yelling at him was kindness enough.

Back outside, he turned and faced the kneeling Lei Jian and Lei Ye again.

"Yes, it's normal for trainers to claim items in the wild. The Alliance doesn't forbid it. But there's a line. You don't cross into sacred territory! You don't endanger the balance between humans and Legendary Pokémon! You extended your hand to the wrong place!"

The brothers broke down in tears.

"I… I… we didn't know… it would cause all this…"

Their voices shook, their sobs incoherent.

"You may not have known. But that doesn't matter now. You can't undo it, and you can't fix it alone. Now tell me what you took. We must try to calm Zapdos, or there'll be no protecting you not from the Alliance, and not from Zapdos."

His voice was heavy. Serious.

There was a pause. Then Lei Ye whispered through tears:

"An… egg. A Spirit Egg."

!!!!

WHAT?!

Pavilion Master Lei nearly fainted.

"You, YOU TOOK A LEGENDARY'S EGG?!"

He looked around frantically to ensure no one had overheard. The allure of a Zapdos egg, even just the rumor of it, could spark a second crisis.

"Arceus help us…"

He exhaled sharply to calm himself.

"Vikavolt! Go tell the girl from earlier to come immediately!"

The powerful Bug/Electric Pokémon nodded and zipped off toward Chen Xiaoxiao.

Seconds later, Chen Xiaoxiao and Gardevoir appeared beside them via Teleport.

"Master Lei, have you finished questioning them?"

Chen Xiaoxiao's eyes narrowed when she glanced at the crying siblings.

"It's more complicated than I thought," Master Lei replied grimly. "We need to speak privately."

Retrieving Vikavolt's Poké Ball, he gave Gardevoir a nod.

"Gardevoir, take us somewhere hidden."

Chen Xiaoxiao echoed the request.

Without a word, Gardevoir blinked once and transported the entire group—to the very tunnel where she'd first found Lei Jian and Lei Ye.

---

"Gardevoir, what is this place?"

Chen Xiaoxiao blinked at the damp, dark cavern.

"(This is where I found them. No one will come here.)"

"Alright, Master Lei go ahead."

Chen Xiaoxiao activated her Pokédex's flashlight and focused.

"They…" Master Lei's voice was flat. "…took a Legendary Pokémon's egg."

Chen Xiaoxiao froze.

"…"

Then she blurted out:

"WHY DON'T YOU TWO JUST GO TO HEAVEN!?"
