c113: Silent Brothers and Sisters
Gardevoir scanned the tunnel with her enhanced psychic sense and quickly determined that the burrow stretched nearly 10 kilometers long and stood close to two meters high clearly large enough to allow human passage.
She guessed, based on the circumstances, that Lei Jian and Lei Ye had used Dig to escape from the enraged Electric-type Pokémon in the Electric Forest.
"(Did you take anything from the Electric Forest?)"
Without wasting time, Gardevoir sent a direct telepathic message to the siblings.
Lei Ye blinked, confused how did Gardevoir know about that? But Lei Jian, who had been secretly anxious ever since they retrieved the strange object, froze on the spot.
Immediately sensing the change in their emotions panic, guilt, and fear Gardevoir's expression turned grim.
"(So it really was you... What did you take?)"
She pressed again, her voice now sharp with psychic intensity.
The siblings exchanged nervous glances, unsure whether to confess or stay silent.
"What's going on? How did Chen Xiaoxiao know? Did she send Gardevoir just to find us? Is this why all the Electric Pokémon went berserk and attacked us?"
Lei Jian's mind was spinning. He hadn't considered that their actions might have triggered something so large-scale. In his ignorance, he thought they were the only ones being attacked.
He couldn't have imagined that the entire forest had erupted into chaos and that a Legendary Pokémon was the source.
"(Forget it. I'll let Xiaoxiao deal with you.)"
Reading their hesitations and half-formed regrets, Gardevoir decided not to press further. Her priority now was returning them to safety.
She wrapped the two in a shimmer of blue psychic light and Teleported them instantly from the tunnel that Raichu had spent so long digging.

Elsewhere.
Just as Gardevoir materialized above ground with Lei Jian and Lei Ye, Zapdos, already worn out and struggling to remain airborne, let out a sudden shriek of fury!
"What just happened?"
Chen Xiaoxiao noticed the sudden shift in Zapdos' demeanor and quickly scanned the area.
"(Xiaoxiao! It's Gardevoir—she just appeared with two people below!)"
Solgaleo quickly relayed the information through their telepathic link.
Chen Xiaoxiao's heart skipped a beat. She looked down—and sure enough, she spotted Gardevoir with Lei Jian and Lei Ye emerging from underground.
Just as quickly, Zapdos's rage ignited again. Thunder crackled madly around it as it streaked downward straight toward Gardevoir's location!
"Damn it! Solgaleo, Teleport—then Protect! Latias, use Dragon Pulse! Meowstic, Helping Hand! Quickly!"
Without hesitation, Chen Xiaoxiao gave simultaneous commands to her team.
Zapdos now moved faster than before, its desperation giving it one final surge of wild energy.
Lei Jian and Lei Ye had barely felt the open air and sunlight when they saw an electrified, thunder-covered bird descending on them with terrifying speed.
The air buzzed with voltage.
A beam of lightning struck from above
"Ahhhhh!!"
Both siblings screamed in horror, closing their eyes in helpless panic.
Are we going to die? they thought simultaneously.
BOOM!
A massive impact rocked the area, sending dust and energy shockwaves outward.
They hit the ground, trembling, certain that they were done for.
But seconds passed.
They weren't in pain.
Slowly, they opened their eyes and gasped.
Standing between them and Zapdos was a massive white lion the majestic Solgaleo. Around its body shimmered a protective barrier Protect which had deflected Zapdos's lightning strike midair and knocked the bird away.
The sheer force had blasted Zapdos backward, grounding it momentarily.
Lei Jian and Lei Ye looked around in shock. Craters, scorched earth, shattered stones everywhere bore signs of a massive battle.
Their previous Pokémon skirmishes now seemed like child's play in comparison.
Just then, Latias, soaring above on silent wings, charged a glowing wave of draconic energy in her mouth and fired!
BOOM!
Dragon Pulse hit Zapdos directly, sending it flying back hundreds of meters. The thunderbird's stamina had clearly reached its limit.
"Latias, regroup! Solgaleo, follow up with Psychic!"
Chen Xiaoxiao, riding Latias, flew low and directed the battle from above as she closed in on her allies.
"(Sister Xiaoxiao!!)" x2
Lei Jian and Lei Ye cried out in unison, both relieved and ashamed.
"Gardevoir, thank you."
Landing gracefully in front of them, Chen Xiaoxiao smiled briefly at Gardevoir before turning to the siblings with a steely gaze.
Her tone changed immediately.
"What did you take from Zapdos?"
Her voice was firm. No more guessing. The moment Zapdos had lunged toward them specifically, she knew.
"It really was… Zapdos?"
Both siblings looked stunned. It was only then that they realized the consequences of what they'd done.
They exchanged a guilty glance and lowered their heads, silent.
Their silence made Chen Xiaoxiao's expression darken.
What had she and the other Trainers fought so hard for, kilometers away, risking everything to draw Zapdos away—only for these two to stay silent?
Her patience cracked.
She dismounted Latias, setting Meowstic onto its back.
"Solgaleo, Latias stall Zapdos. Meowstic, cast Helping Hand and Light Screen to assist them. Stay safe. Don't engage recklessly. Report to me via telepathy if anything changes!"
She issued the order directly to her Pokémon through telepathic link.
Latias and Meowstic nodded. Without hesitation, they flew off toward the Zapdos battle, where Solgaleo had resumed the offensive.
Zapdos was clearly weakening. Even Chen Xiaoxiao knew the Legendary was at its breaking point. As long as her Pokémon fought cautiously, the danger was manageable.
"Gardevoir. Take us to Master Lei."
She turned her cold gaze back to Lei Jian and Lei Ye.
"Uncle is here?"
The brothers were confused why would their uncle be at the frontline of a Zapdos crisis?
They looked at each other again but said nothing.
Gardevoir, unfazed, closed her eyes and locked on to Master Lei's presence.
In a flash, she Teleported with the two siblings and Chen Xiaoxiao.

As they arrived on the new battlefield, shouts and roars filled the air.
"Electivire! Use Protect! Quickly! Bring the wounded to the Pokémon Center staff! Everyone else, hold formation and stay alert!"
The booming voice of Master Lei echoed over the ridge.
His partner Pokémon, a powerful Vikavolt, hovered in front of him, casting defensive energy.
Noticing movement behind him, Vikavolt spun around, crackling with readiness.
"Who's there!?"
Master Lei turned—then his eyes widened.
"Xiaoxiao!"
Relief washed over his face. Ever since she had drawn Zapdos away from the city, he had been on edge.
Even from over 10 kilometers away, the glow of Zapdos' lightning and the repeated sky-bursting explosions could be seen.
He had imagined the worst.
But now—seeing her alive, with Lei Jian and Lei Ye in tow—his relief quickly turned to suspicion.
His gaze darkened, sensing there was more to the story.
He looked directly at the boys.
"...What have you done?"
