Several uneventful days passed, and the mishap Arthas had worried about never happened. He wasn't sure if it was luck or something else.
Today was another day as Rias's familiar. With a recent increase in requests, Arthas had to run errands.
Rias recruited familiars using flyers with small teleportation arrays, promising to grant wishes, spreading them throughout the town.
Most people considered it a joke, but a few tried summoning a devil and making strange wishes.
Most were simple errands, with Arthas receiving tips afterward. They treated the devil summoning as a novel service industry.
Many people activated the summoning arrays on the flyers, but none were suitable to become Rias's familiars.
According to Rias, Arthas needed to train and help Kiba and Koneko with their workload. Souna, however, scoffed at Rias's childish behavior, finding it foolish.
But as a devil… going door-to-door and ringing doorbells felt so lame…
Chuckling wryly, Arthas checked the address on the flyer and arrived at a house, noticing something unusual.
The door was open. It was late at night; an open door was illogical.
This was dangerous.
Wait… there was a metallic scent of blood coming from inside.
Arthas heightened his alertness and entered the house.
The hallway was dark, with a staircase leading to the second floor, also unlit.
Only a room at the back of the first floor seemed lit, but dimly.
As Arthas approached, the metallic scent of blood grew stronger. The light wasn't electric; it was flickering candlelight.
It was the living room. It had sofas, a television, and a coffee table.
A typical living room arrangement. But on the wall was a corpse, hanging upside down. The metallic scent of blood originated from here.
The corpse appeared to be a man, brutally mutilated. Something was flowing from the wounds—likely internal organs. The death was particularly gruesome.
This didn't faze Arthas; he only wondered who had done this.
It clearly wasn't the work of a human. While there were certainly sadistic murderers, the precision of the wounds was beyond human capability.
The perpetrator could only be from the three factions: devils, angels, or fallen angels.
Was it a stray devil?
But… stray devils wouldn't have such a perverse interest, would they?
Arthas examined the male corpse again. It was affixed to the wall in an inverted cross shape, secured with nails.
This religiously charged murder scene didn't seem like the work of a mindless stray devil.
Blood dripped onto the floor, forming a large pool.
On the wall, next to the corpse, blood formed words.
"'Evil-doers shall be punished…' That's a quote from a saint."
As Arthas tried to decipher the words, a young man's voice suddenly came from behind him.
He turned to see a young, white-haired man, possibly a foreigner, looking to be in his teens.
He was dressed like a priest, with an oddly handsome face.
The priest grinned upon seeing Arthas.
"Hmm~~hmm~~? My, my, my, isn't this a little… devil?"
He laughed merrily.
Arthas remembered Rias's warning.
Churches weren't only home to priests and nuns; they also housed powerful exorcists who carried out missions.
These divinely blessed individuals could easily defeat ordinary reincarnated devils.
Dressed as a priest, easily identifying him as a devil, and the religiously charged corpse in the living room—this man was undoubtedly an exorcist.
"I am Father? Young Priest~~? Devil Slayer~~ cruelly mocking~~? Devils, I'll chop off your heads~~to make a living~~?"
The priest suddenly began to sing, acting like a madman.
"My name is Freed Sellzen. I'm a low-ranking member of an exorcist organization. Ah, you don't need to bother remembering my name.
I don't want to waste brainpower memorizing yours. It's fine; you'll be dead soon. I'll kill you. It might hurt a little at first, but you'll soon be crying with pleasure. Let's move on to a new world together!"
"This is troublesome. Killing contract holders without reason will cause problems."
"Ha, who told him to keep summoning devils? Who else should I kill?"
"This is good. After seeing the power of the fallen angels, let's see the power of the angels."
The priest expected to see panic on Arthas's face, but he was disappointed.
"What's wrong? Why aren't you crying or panicking? Do you want to fight me? A mere waste of a devil, daring to be so arrogant!"
He must be crazy…
Arthas thought this as the priest pulled out a sword hilt without a blade and a handgun.
Buzz.
The air vibrated.
A beam of light extended from the hilt, forming a lightsabre-like blade.
"You're really annoying. Can I cut you? Can I shoot you? OK, right? Received. Now, I'll pierce your heart with this cool lightsabre and use this stylish handgun to deliver a fatal blow, fallinlove!"
"You talk too much."
Arthas said calmly, and the priest charged!
