Freed Sellzen, the youngest and most talented exorcist in the Vatican's Sigurd Institution, was originally a direct subordinate.

A genius who became an exorcist at thirteen, he had numerous achievements in eliminating devils and monsters. However, he showed no mercy, even to his fellow humans.

His faith was nonexistent from the start; he only possessed hostility and killing intent towards monsters, and an unusual obsession with combat.

Due to his cruel and brutal methods, he was punished. Freed Sellzen, once a promising exorcist, was relegated to a small church in a remote region of Japan.

However, this didn't seem to bother Freed Sellzen. This mad priest desired only battle and slaughter.

For example, he particularly wanted to see the devil before him cry out in pain after being struck by his light blade.

Thinking this, he swung his light blade, but the motion was abruptly halted.

"Whoa!"

A chilling sensation spread from his heart to his entire body. At some point, the less than a meter distance between Freed and Arthas was replaced by a cold, jet-black longsword.

Under the flickering candlelight, the black blade emitted an alluring, almost blinding sheen. Freed felt a stinging pain in his heart, gradually spreading throughout his body.

It felt as if his blood, vessels, bones, muscles, and skin were being frozen and crushed one by one.

What is this? When did it appear…? Why am I being pierced?

A series of questions flashed through his mind before Freed lost consciousness. His entire body froze from the inside out, shattering into countless ice shards.

Only that much…? He was too weak.

Looking at the lifeless Freed, Arthas touched his nose in displeasure. The man had talked so much, acting so powerful, yet he hadn't even dodged a single strike.

Or perhaps he hadn't intended to dodge, charging straight onto the sword's point.

Arthas recalled what had happened. It was simple: when the priest charged, he summoned Frostmourne and the priest ran straight onto the blade's point, getting impaled.

How boring… He hadn't had a proper fight since coming to this world. If the angels and fallen angels were this weak, it was rather disheartening.

Arthas thought this, and Frostmourne vanished. Then, a familiar voice called out.

"Stop!"

Stop? It's over. What's there to stop?

Arthas chuckled, turning his head. At the doorway stood the familiar nun, Asia.

"Eek! Yaaaaah!!!"

The moment she entered, Asia saw the corpse nailed to the wall and screamed.

Realizing his mistake, Arthas froze the corpse with ice, completely covering the blood and the gruesome scene. He approached Asia.

"Sorry, I startled you. Why are you here?"

"Wh… what… why is that person dead…? Father Freed said he would give him a chance to repent."

Asia's gaze suddenly sharpened. Her eyes widened in surprise.

"Arthas-san, why are you here? And Father Freed?"

"I'm sorry, about Father Freed…"

Seeing Asia, still shaken and frightened, Arthas apologized, pointing to the ground.

"He's right here."

"Yaaah! Eek!"

Noticing the ice shards under her feet, Asia screamed again.

"Wh… what happened…? Why is the homeowner dead? And Father Freed…"

"I'm sorry, Asia… I hid something from you. I'm not an ordinary human; I'm a devil."

"Wh… what?! Impossible?!"

Arthas's sudden revelation made Asia take several steps back, staring at him in disbelief.

"It's true. I'm a devil. I came to this house after being summoned, and I found the body. Father Freed killed him and then attacked me, but he was no match for me."

"Wh… why… this shouldn't be happening."

The shock of this revelation made Asia unsteady, causing her to collapse.

The priest's cruelty, and the kind man she'd met being a devil—Asia didn't know how to react.

Devils were heretics, the church's enemies. Humans and devils couldn't coexist. Asia recalled the man she'd helped; she, a former saint, had been falsely accused of falling and becoming an accomplice to devils.

That's why she'd been assigned to this small town as a nun.

But was that really true? Had she done something wrong? Had the power God gave her—the power to heal—become corrupted because she'd healed a devil?

Asia curled up, on the verge of tears. Besides her faith, she had nothing left.

"Do you think I'm your enemy? Or do you want to kill me to avenge Father Freed?"

Arthas gently approached, crouching down, and looked at Asia softly.

"No… no, Arthas-san is a kind person… even if he's a devil. And… Father Freed… why did he kill innocent people?"

Remembering the gruesomely murdered corpse nailed to the wall, Asia felt nauseous again.

"Not all devils are evil, and not all angels are good. Justice and evil are measured by your own conscience, not by others. Just do what you believe is right."

Gently embracing the pitiful girl, Arthas whispered these words.
