Fallen angels could use the power of light, despite being fallen angels. This was what Arthas currently understood about them.
Walking home from school, Arthas pondered this.
Both Rias and Souna were very concerned about his safety and even offered to send someone to protect him, but he'd refused.
Souna usually walked home with him since they lived together, but that wasn't possible today; Arthas was Rias's familiar.
Kiba and Akeno had even walked him to the school gates. If they saw Arthas with Souna, their secret would be revealed immediately.
Fortunately, Souna and her familiars were all student council members, so staying late for meetings and handling affairs was a regular occurrence, conveniently avoiding any chance of encountering each other after school.
As for why Arthas, also a student council member, didn't attend meetings, Souna easily explained it away.
For now, Arthas's worries seemed unnecessary. Souna and Rias had handled things well on both sides.
He just wondered how long this situation could be kept hidden… schools always held group activities. If they attended, their secret would be revealed.
"Oof!"
As Arthas was thinking this, a voice suddenly cried out.
Simultaneously, he heard something fall on the road.
Turning around, he saw a nun fall to the ground.
She landed face-down, arms outstretched. The exaggerated fall made Arthas think she was trying to scam him.
"Are you alright?"
But she was a girl, and it wasn't kind to assume the worst. Arthas approached, intending to help her up.
However, as the nun reached out to take his hand, Arthas paused and retracted his hand.
"Waaah!"
The nun, who had just stood up to take his hand, cried out in pain and fell face-first again.
It seemed… quite painful.
Of course, Arthas hadn't intentionally caused the girl's fall. He'd withdrawn his hand because he'd sensed an unusual aura from her.
It was undoubtedly a divine artifact. The girl possessed a divine artifact.
Remembering the recent death caused by his casual touch, Arthas didn't dare touch her again.
"Waaah… wh… why would you do that to Asia?"
The nun, who had fallen twice, looked up at Arthas with tearful eyes. Her voice was young; she must still be a student.
Because of the falls, her golden hair, which had been neatly tucked under her veil, cascaded down, shimmering in the setting sun.
Arthas's gaze involuntarily shifted to the nun's face.
A beautiful girl with radiant golden hair and deep green eyes that seemed to draw him in.
Her beauty involuntarily overlapped with someone in Arthas's mind—a proud, stubborn, yet dazzling woman.
I wonder… where are you now, and are you doing well…? Artoria.
As a Heroic Spirit, she should be immortal, right? Even defeat in battle only meant returning to the Throne of Heroes. If so, they would meet again.
"Ah… I'm sorry. I have… a curse. I can't touch you; it would hurt you."
Arthas stammered, using a clumsy lie.
Although it was clearly a lie, the nun nodded, believing him.
"I… I see? That's unfortunate, sir."
"Um… you believed me?"
She believed him so easily? Was she that gullible?
"Um… is the gentleman lying to me?"
Asia, the nun, tilted her head in confusion, looking at Arthas with suspicion. She patted herself down and stood up with difficulty.
"Not really… but it's complicated to explain. Just think of it as a curse."
"I see. Thank you for helping me, anyway. Even though I fell again, you did try to help."
Asia said nonchalantly, not only believing Arthas's clumsy lie but also unconcerned about her falls.
"Are… are you traveling?"
Seeing the bag on her back, Arthas asked curiously.
The nun shook her head.
"No, I'm not traveling. I came to this town's church for an assignment… you live in this town, too. Pleased to meet you."
She bowed slightly.
"But I ran into trouble right away… I don't speak Japanese very well… and I got lost. No one on the street understood me…"
The confused nun clasped her hands together, looking at Arthas for help.
We just met… why is she asking me for help? Is she sure I'll help? And in a foreign country, shouldn't she be more cautious? Why would she trust a stranger she just met?
Arthas thought wryly, but he decided to help her. After all, she seemed to possess a divine artifact, and he needed to get to know her to make her Rias's familiar.
Arthas wasn't very familiar with the town and didn't know where the church was, but that didn't mean he couldn't find it.
The girl was simply lost because of the language barrier. There was a bus stop nearby, and the church's location was clearly marked on the sign.
According to the map, it was quite far from town, but since they could take a bus, it wouldn't take long.
"I'll take you there."
"Re… really?! Th… thank you! This must be God's guidance!"
The nun, with tears in her eyes, smiled at Arthas. She was incredibly cute.
