"That was a fallen angel?"
Arthas, who had been observing from the sidelines, stepped forward after the fallen angel, Yuuma, left.
However, this fallen angel didn't seem very strong; she hadn't even noticed him hiding.
Even so, killing an unwakened artifact wielder was too easy. The boy had offered no resistance before being pierced through the heart by the spear of light.
"Am I… going to die?" Issei Hyoudou's consciousness was fading, filled with regret.
Someone… someone, please save me.
Footsteps sounded again—the rhythmic, confident sound of hard-soled shoes.
Who? Who's coming? Save… save me.
Blood flowed slowly, forming a pool of crimson beneath Issei Hyoudou.
Save… or not save?
Arthas was torn.
Arthas was never a kind person. He never cared about the lives of strangers.
He'd followed them only because he'd sensed a dragon's aura, piquing his curiosity. Encountering the fallen angel was an accident.
Saving this boy would be easy; he could use the flyer Rias gave him to summon her, and she could make a contract with the dying boy.
Would that be enough?
For some reason, Arthas fell silent, his gaze turning cold as he looked at the boy.
Why save him? To gain another rival?
Uncontrollably, this thought arose in his mind. Arthas didn't know if it was his true feeling or the influence of the Sacred Gear.
But undeniably, his desire to save the boy had diminished significantly.
He approached Issei Hyoudou and took his hand. Now, more than saving him, Arthas wanted to know what kind of divine artifact he possessed and why it gave him a dragon's aura.
Who… is saving me? Save… save me…
He tried to speak, but no sound came out. He couldn't even open his eyes. The moment Arthas grasped Issei Hyoudou's hand, an intense icy aura invaded his body.
Before Arthas could understand what happened, a fiery red light erupted from Issei Hyoudou's wrist.
A majestic dragon's roar echoed, but it was quickly extinguished by an endless torrent of ice.
When Arthas reacted, the poor boy had become an ice sculpture, lifeless.
"Um…"
Arthas stood there dumbfounded. He hadn't done anything; why had this happened?
Unsure how to proceed, Arthas took out the flyer Rias had given him. The small teleportation array embedded in the flyer could summon Rias.
A magic circle formed beside Arthas, and a vibrant crimson appeared in his vision.
First, blood-red hair, then Rias herself materialized before him.
"Mmm… Arthas, you summoned me? What happened?"
Rias, thinking a customer had activated one of her flyers, was surprised to find Arthas had summoned her.
"This is…"
Seeing Issei Hyoudou, lifeless on the ground, Rias paused, then looked at Arthas.
"I don't know what happened. I noticed he had a unique aura at school; I thought it might be a divine artifact, so I followed him. Then I saw him killed by a fallen angel. After the fallen angel left, I went to check on him, and when I touched his hand…"
"I see… it's not your fault. We didn't explain it clearly enough."
Looking at the lifeless Issei Hyoudou, Rias sighed regretfully.
"When the host is in mortal danger, the divine artifact will instinctively protect them. That's what happened to you, and apparently, to him. When you touched his hand, the divine artifact within him reacted to protect its wielder, and yours did the same… and then this happened."
"Is that so?"
Arthas scratched his head. He felt something had entered his body the moment he touched the boy. Was it just his imagination?
"Yes, don't blame yourself. It's not your fault. If anyone is to blame, it's the fallen angel who killed him."
Rias said, and Arthas shrugged.
Blame? He didn't feel it. He hadn't intended to save him; if he'd unintentionally killed him, it was simply fate.
"But the fallen angels are getting bolder, daring to come to our territory and kill someone from our academy. They seem to completely disregard the Gremory family!"
"Arthas, be careful in the next few days. The fallen angels are likely still searching for targets. Souna and I, our familiars, they won't act rashly, but they might not hesitate with you. After all, few people know you're both of our familiars."
While friction was constant between devils, angels, and fallen angels, basic rules were still maintained; otherwise, another three-way war would erupt.
Both Souna and Rias's presence in the human world was tacitly permitted. Both the angels and fallen angels were aware of their existence.
They dared not attack Souna or Rias; it was an unwritten rule among the three factions—conflicts between juniors were to be resolved by the juniors themselves.
If a fallen angel with four or more wings dared to attack Souna or Rias, the two of the Four Great Satan Rulers wouldn't hesitate to wipe out the angels' and fallen angels' bases in the human world.
