Theo moves toward Mira without a single word, his movements sharp, his shoulders drawn tight, and his expression unreadable.
His silence cuts through the tension like a blade, more unsettling than if he'd started shouting.
His eyes are locked on her, searching her face for something he clearly can't yet understand nor digest.
"What is he talking about?" he asks, jerking a thumb over his shoulder in the direction of his brother.
The tone in his voice is tight, clipped. Mira stops moving. Her breath catches, and she turns to face him, swiping at her tears as if trying to regain some semblance of composure.
"I've been meaning to tell you that I'm actually pregnant," she says, her voice weak despite the firm tone she tries to force into it.
The edges of her words quiver as though held together by nothing more than willpower.
She looks like she's on the edge of falling apart, but she doesn't waver. She meets his eyes.
