After taking a deep breath, Lillian received the call.
"Lily, Honey, where are you?" asked the concerned the woman. "It's late at night."
Immediately, Lillian conjured up a lie. "I apologize I forgot to tell you early. I am staying over at Sophie's place today."
"You're staying over at my place? How come I didn't know?"
Hearing Sophie's voice took Lillian aback, and for a second, she was out of words.
Then came the stern voice of Grace Lu. "Be honest, Lillian."
Hearing her mother pronounce her full name made her feel instantly guilty. Lillian slowly answered, "At the hospital."
"AT THE HOSPITAL? Honey, what happened? Why are you suddenly at the hospital? Did you get into an accident earlier? No, I am coming over. How did you suddenly end up in the hospital?"
Looking at how stressed Grace was, Lillian attempted to comfort her. "I am alright. It's a light concussion. There is no need to come over so late at night. Take rest."
