Chapter 147 - Beefcake

Inside Sanctuary, Raven walked into her drone construction workshop. She sat at the central design computer, pulling up a blank schematic program. Her mind was ready with the outline for her new creation a flying drone that would circle endlessly above the skies of New York, linked to her through her Technomancer powers, which she could feel getting close to her level two awakening. Likely, her second awakening would happen before she leaves Sanctuary to return to the wildlife refuge.

Her fingers moved across the computer console, turning her vision into a blueprint. Her first priority was power: Raven integrated her newest high-tech solar panel arrays into the drones body, they are able to draw energy not only from sunlight but from starlight and moonlight as well. These solar panels, are a recent invention. They can harvest energy from the faintest ambient light even through clouds or storms, ensuring uninterrupted power. This drone, she decided, would never need to land only occasionally re enter Sanctuary for resupply and maintenance.

Alara then moved on to the mater of surveillance. As high-powered cameras capable of infrared scanning took shape in the blueprint, paired with her latest X-ray deep infiltration cameras that could see inside structures from a high altitude. An array of omnidirectional microphones would allow her to isolate and eavesdrop on any chosen conversation. The onboard AI core would carry a full-spectrum comms intrusion program suite capable of intercepting and decrypting any radio or airborne signal that might mention her or Alara with their their names being trigger words for to program to activate and notify her.

The physical frame of the drone formed on the monitor. This drone will be the size of an F-16 fighter jet, not because of a need for speed but for the payload of weapons and systems she intends to load it up with. Optical camouflage is a must; Raven is not going to risk her drones' safety with mutated birds or other airborne predators.

Then came the weapons. For Striker One the new name for this drone she designed a Sword of Damocles system: several dozen elongated metal rods, each sharpened to a point. Droped from a high altitude, gravity would give them the force to puncture bunker roofs, armored beasts, or the thick shells of mutated sea life should they crawl onto land. She supplemented this with a variety of bombs as a payload, including "party poppers" designed to draw zombies in hoards, and others to drive them away and a few more devices she chose not to reveal to keep them as a suprise.

Lastly, she built in a layered redundancy: high-density energy cells able to store an excess solar charge for extended lightless periods of time. With these, Striker One would remain operational no matter what anomaly might black out the skies.

When the plans were complete, she leaned back as the workshop came alive to construct her vision. Her workshop is now fully automated after months of her upgrades, the robot arms began pulling materials from storage and welding frame sections together. Raven simply extended her Technomancer energy into the workshop, feeding them the energy that made her creations more than just machines they become extensions of her will.

By the time Striker One's skeletal frame was done, Raven was already working on her second drone one even stranger, full of surprises she wasn't ready to share yet the two in one drone.

Leaving the workshop, Raven walked towards a distant forest within Sanctuary. The air was alive with the cawing of her flock of 3,000 ravens as they tore into the carcasses of system-raised pigs and cattle. She paused, noting with satisfaction that the numbers are growing beyond the original count number she tamed. The time dilation in Sanctuary is working its quiet magic. This sight stirred a distant thought in her first life, she was nowhere near this strong at this point in time, back then she was a pawn broken by her family's betrayals. That will not happen again. When they left Sanctuary, she would find her father and the rest of her family. As for Epsilon Base… she'd walk in as the villain. There were no good people left, only survivors, and no one can match what she is willing to do for a grand entrance.

Alara tuned away from the flock of ravens and followed the sound of low growls and playful snarls in the distance. In a nearby clearing, Alara sat on the grass with her five wolf pups, tossing them thick cuts of bloody beef. Raven slowed, realizing Alara was chewing on a chunk herself.

"Alara," Raven called, "does beef also taste like chicken?"

Alara froze, caught mid-bite. She tossed the bloody chunk of meat into the dirt where the wolves pounced on it, then she turned to Raven. "Of course, it doesn't taste like chicken it tastes like a beefcake."

Raven stopped in her tracks, then burst out laughing. "Hahaha! You don't even know what that means, Alara!"

Alara tilted her head in genuine puzzlement. "But I heard that reference in a movie the other day."

Raven shook her head, amusement fading into exasperation. "How many times have I told you not to watch movies without me there to explain things to you?"
