The house was too quiet. Not the kind of peace that brings comfort, but the kind that presses on your ears and makes every breath sound too loud. I sat at the edge of the long, leather couch, my fingers tangled together in my lap. The mansion was filled with shadows today—not from the lack of light, but from the weight of silence and the unspoken truths circling overhead like vultures.
The Alphas had left early, all three of them, and none of them had said a word to me before they did. Normally, Liam would kiss my temple, Kai would ruffle my hair in that teasing way, and Ryker... Ryker would just watch me, like he always did, intense and quiet, but still present. Today? Nothing. Not even a look back.
I stood and wandered into the hallway, unsure of what I was even looking for. Maybe I thought I'd find a note. A message. Something. But there was nothing. Just empty space and the echo of my own footsteps.
