The moment the trade was completed Gu Yuan's expression instantly shifted. Golden beams of light shot skyward linking together into a vast barrier that sealed everything within a thousand li. From every direction countless figures surged forth murderous intent filling the air.
Last time I struck you down and by sheer luck you escaped with your life. This time I will see to it that you are destroyed with no remains left behind.
Step by step Gu Yuan advanced toward Xu Wu Tun Yan. His killing intent blazed like fire.
Yet Xu Wu Tun Yan stood calmly his eyes playful as he looked past Gu Yuan.
Will you keep pretending. The time is about right.
Gu Yuan frowned slightly.
Then behind him came a soft voice.
Father Xun Er misses you so much.
Frailty clung to delicate arms as they wrapped around Gu Yuan's body.
Xun Er your father will avenge you. With me here no one can harm you.
Gu Yuan thought she was trembling from terror and opened his mouth to comfort her. But when he turned he was greeted not by the gentle face of his daughter but by a twisted visage filled with madness.
The eyes of Gu Xun Er blazed with insanity blood red lines spreading like cracks across her body. The image was monstrous.
You are not Xun Er.
Gu Yuan's face darkened he pushed to shove her away.
But before he could the body of this false Xun Er erupted with a surge of destructive energy.
Not good.
Horror crossed Gu Yuan's features he managed only to shield his vital points with Dou Qi.
Boom.
In that instant the body exploded. Golden lightning and purple black fire fused together sweeping out across heaven and earth.
Lightning and flame wove together into a storm of destruction. The thousand li around the peak was consumed by a dual domain of thunder and fire. Beasts plants and the thousand soldiers of the Gu Clan's Black Abyss Army who rushed forward all were reduced to ash. Only those at Dou Sheng level or higher survived within the storm.
The slaughter was immense. The Black Abyss Army suffered terrible losses. The terrifying thunder fire field raged for the time of an entire incense stick before finally dispersing.
Clan Leader.
A towering figure strode forth leading ranks of dark armored soldiers. Gu Lie's gaze swept across the ruined mountain top.
Where once stood several peaks now lay nothing but level ground and dust.
Clan Leader are you alright.
From the smoke came the sound of ragged coughing.
I am fine.
Gu Yuan emerged from the haze yet his state was wretched. Dust clung to his hair his robes hung in tatters his arms dripped with blood.
The gathered clan members gasped in disbelief. Never before had they seen their clan leader so battered.
Gu Yuan swallowed several pills staunching the blood at last.
As expected of a peak nine star Dou Sheng even such a blast cannot kill you.
From the sky drifted the voice of Xu Wu Tun Yan. His black robed form appeared once more.
Void Devouring Flame.
The faces of the Gu Clan elders shifted.
Gu Yuan glared coldly. Where is Xun Er.
Gu Xun Er. Xu Wu Tun Yan tilted his head pointing to the scorched land. There she lies is she not already dead.
Lies.
Gu Yuan swept Dou Qi across the ground pulling fragments into his hand. The material was neither metal nor wood of a strange nature.
This was only a puppet. Though I do not know why such a puppet held such intelligence Xun Er is surely still in your hands. Hand her over or today will be your death.
Gu Yuan's voice thundered with fury.
Clan Leader allow me to fight this so called Void Devouring Flame.
Gu Lie's temper ignited. With a roar he charged forward his fist carrying ferocious Dou Qi smashing toward Xu Wu Tun Yan.
Xu Wu Tun Yan waved his hand sending a tide of black flames sweeping to meet the blow.
Gu Yuan's heart sank. Against a nine star Dou Sheng this clash would be hopeless.
Yet in the next moment shock filled every face. The dark flames shattered beneath Gu Lie's punch. Xu Wu Tun Yan's body was driven back hundreds of meters.
Gu Lie himself stood stunned. He had only used eighty percent of his power yet he had forced back a nine star Dou Sheng.
Xu Wu Tun Yan seems weaker.
Gu Yuan's eyes narrowed with suspicion.
Xu Wu Tun Yan rubbed his chest clearly pained but he gave a light laugh.
I cannot die yet not until the final task is complete.
He drew forth a golden talisman inscribed with spatial power.
Does he intend to flee.
Gu Yuan smirked. Within this ancient formation the laws of space were suppressed. Even he could not escape. No spatial scroll could function here.
But instead of using it to run Xu Wu Tun Yan pressed the golden talisman upon the Tuoshe Ancient Emperor Jade.
The instant the talisman touched the jade space convulsed violently.
With a flash the jade and talisman merged into a streak of golden light that shot skyward. It pierced the barrier creating a small hole and vanished into the void.
The golden formation closed slowly once more but the jade was gone.
Impossible.
Gu Yuan nearly dropped his jaw. The grand array had been broken so easily. What was that golden talisman.
Questions whirled through his mind yet one fact was certain. The jade was gone.
Xun Er was not rescued and the clan had lost the Tuoshe Ancient Emperor Jade.
Humiliation. Boundless humiliation.
Void Devouring Flame how dare you. Kill him all of you kill him to soothe my hatred.
His roar shook the mountains as countless clan members surged forward. Gu Yuan himself condensed a giant Dou Qi palm that descended upon Xu Wu Tun Yan.
Yet Xu Wu Tun Yan merely spread his hands and smiled.
Do you still call me Void Devouring Flame.
What do you mean.
He stretched his body with a lazy yawn his form swelling.
I too shall explode.
The voice echoed with eerie calm.
Everyone retreat.
The memory of the earlier explosion haunted Gu Yuan. At his order the Gu Clan fell into chaos fleeing in all directions. Pride and discipline shattered into fear and disorder.
The scene was pitiful.
Boom.
Gu Yuan dove behind a boulder shielding his face with his sleeve. But the anticipated devastating blast never came.
Instead harmless pops echoed. The explosion carried no strength barely strong enough to harm a mortal.
From the sky drifted not flame nor lightning but countless white slips of paper fluttering like snow.
Gu Yuan caught one between his fingers. His chest heaved and with a bitter cry of rage he coughed blood.
On the paper were four simple words.
You have been fooled.
Gu Yuan's fury erupted. With a single palm strike he shattered the entire peak of Fallen Mountain into rubble.
Two puppets. For the first time in his life he had been toyed with by mere constructs. He had not even glimpsed the true body of Xu Wu Tun Yan and yet the precious jade was lost.
Where then was the real Void Devouring Flame.
Suddenly his heart sank.
Not good return to the clan at once.
