Asena's POV
The council members had stretched the celebration long enough into the night and by the time I returned to my chambers, exhaustion had begun pulling down hard on my shoulders. I slowly removed my gown, finally feeling the weight of it leave my shoulders. I had a long shower and then put on the lightest silk I had and then I sat on the chair near the window, so the cool night air would bring that peace I needed.
For the first time since taking on leadership from my father, I allowed myself to rest, only for a moment.
But peace never lasted. Not when you're the leader of a pack.
The heavy bangs sounded on my door, no one dared knock like that, except it was an emergency, I took one of my dark robes and flung it over my transparent silk dress in one instance and got to the door in another instance.
The moment I opened the door, one of my guards rushed in, his chest evidently beating faster than normal. His face was pale, his eyes wide with fear.
