It was a gentle evening. My brothers and I sat on the balcony gazing at the breathtakingsight of the beautiful orange sun and the sky painted pink and purple when we finally heard the car engine roaring.
"Kush lock the door."
"Okay aunt."
We came down to lock the door. As we expected our mother gave us a whole lecture about not opening the door to strangers, keeping our phones with us, calling them if something was wrong, not to order food, check twice whether the door is locked and all. We are still treated as kids, despite me being just a year away from being legally an adult and my brother being a young adult.
The three of us had been waiting for this opportunity. We looked at each other.
"Which movie have you decided?" Said my older brother
"How about horror." Said eager Moksh
"Okay, which one."
"Nun."
"No, I have watched that."
"With whom?" I jumped in
"College friends, duh!"
"Or a secret girlfriend." I teased
"See Moksh this creature pretends to be the sweetest and most naive kid in this whole world in front of others, and then you and I or moreover I get scolded for not being like her or learning maturity from my younger sister."
"Don't change the subject besides its your fault for not pretending in front of them."
"Shut up!"
"Movie bro and sis!"
"Conjuring?"
"Yeah."
They started looking for the movie and exploring other option while I prepared popcorn. It was 6:30, our parents had left for a wedding out of our city, and were probably coming back late in night. The three of us looked forward for such times, yeah even me.
I always found movies boring especially horror, rommance and action, horror never seemed to scare me and I often thought how senseless the characters were, for some reason romantic movies seemed naive dreams that would never come true in this acursed world and action scenes most of the times made no sense. Don't even go towards south Indian action. As a result I often fell asleep which happens to be the same thing that happened today. When I woke only twenty minutes of the movie remained. Finally the movie ended.
"Chandni you fell asleep again didn't you?"
"Yeah can't help it."
"Hey Chandni when you get a boyfriend don't go to watch a movie with him or else you might get dumbed." This was probably his revenge
"Shut up! First of all I am not getting a boyfriend, second if I do get one then I am not getting a dramatic airhead who would dumb me over something so stupid and third I don't always fall asleep I only sleep in horror, action and rommance."
"Those happen to be the most preferred genre."
"Whatever! I am fine with a book."
"Boring girl!"
I just rolled my eyes. Whenever our parents left I would easily drop the act of being the most naive creature alive. It was in these times that my brothers and I would tease each other and act like stupid teenagers.
"Okay so embracing the fact that we are alone I would like to ask you to have a nice teenage talk with me."
My brother despite being twenty two hasn't dropped his habit of acting and speaking formally whenever he was excited. Silly bro!
"So first of all do anyone of you have a crush?"
"Nope."
"Like I said I am not interested."
"I see, I see."
"By the way sis." Moksh said with a smug grin on his face. "I saw you sitting with a guy."
"Ooohhh" went my other brother
"It's nothing like that."
"A classmate?"
"Or more than a classmate?"
"A friend?"
"Or more than a friend."
"A bestie?"
"Or more than a bestie."
"A crush?"
"Or more than a crush?"
"I know a boyfriend!" Went both of them
"A rival." I replied
"Rival?"
"Yup, this dude has a problem with me, as a result I have a problem with him."
"What kind of problem?"
I don't want my bros to think I am getting bullied. So I told them almost everything, from the fight about the seat to the kickboxing and finally the pen incident.
"What's his name?"
"Aarush."
"Oh I knew it was him the popular guy whose in basketball team and plays guitar in school functions."
"Yeah that's him."
"I heard he has a girlfriend."
"Who knows, knowing him he might have one."
"Sounds like the perfect attitude kid."
"He is."
"Any idea why he had a fight with you."
"Nope"
"It's just he must have thought you were the perfect kid to pick on."
"Don't you dare let him pick on you."
"Yeah! Whatever, change the subject already."
"So did you find the one in your college?"
"No."
"Do find someone, I'd love to meet her."
"Having a sister - in - law sounds nice."
"It sure does."
"Moksh did you find the one in your school, you know high school sweethearts."
"No, who could possibly meet my standards."
"Yeah, must take a lot to be as low as your standards."
"Shut up!"
"Well, let's eat and then we'll have ice cream later."
Mother had prepared the meal for us. Which we had and then went on the dairy. After a lot of thinking we finally bought our ice cream. The three of us winded up buying the same chocolate cone. Which was super delicious. I love ice cream!
While having it we watched another movie. And I am indeed proud to announce I didn't sleep thus time. Our parents were home by 12:25. After a peaceful day and happy day I went to bed. I was about to lie down when I saw a notification on my phone I opened it and was quite surprised to see a whatsapp message from an unkown number. Something told me to check it. My heart was literally pounding. Never in a million years would I have guessed what future had stored in for me.
