Emma watched the scene unfold between them from the corner of her eyes.
"Is she seriously trying to please that illegitimate child?" asked Ellie in disdain. "Who doesn't know that woman climbed up an old man's bed and seduced him?"
In her previous, she was the one who managed to win the bid against Jonathan. This already planted a seed of vengeance in Jonathan's heart.
The Chen Family auctioned off the jewelry designed by his mother although he asked for the rights to own them regardless of how much they cost.
And when he couldn't afford them against her, Jonathan approached her with a smile on his face, trying to make acquaintance with her.
But Emma found him unsightly and bothersome.
"What are you trying to show off to me by saying these were made by your mother? Am I supposed to clap now?"
With these words and a roll of her eyes, she cut off his chances to converse with her.
That only made the grudges in him against her deepen.
Emma's eyes narrowed at him, glaring at him with the intent of wanting to tear off all the flesh from his body.
Once her dad died, Jonathan inserted the stud of the jade earrings in her ears, pulling them harshly to create a deep wound in her ears.
As she stared at him with horror filled eyes, holding her bleeding ear, he grinned at her and commented, "Beautiful."
"Be careful with your words around him," warned Emma, "he is not a good person. If he gets offended, he will make you face worse."
Ellie folded her arms over her chest, arrogantly lifting her chin. "I dare him to do anything to me. Who does he think he is?"
"Anyways, listen to me, and don't go around provoking him," voiced out Emma, "or else I will be mad at you."
A pout formed on her lips as Ellie stared at her in discontentment, wishing to complain. But Emma's stern eyes made her unable to say anything.
Ellie could only sigh.
"They are setting up a banquet in the other room," said Ellie, "Why don't we go over to eat? I am starving."
Emma nodded.
She didn't plan to leave yet. There was another final scene she had to set up before the day was over.
Following that, they made it over to the banquet hall. While Ellie chattered on the side, Emma listened carefully, nodding and responding when needed.
Using the tongs, she placed various desserts Ellie would enjoy on the plate before handing it over to the girl. Taking the plate from Emma, she used the fork to take one bite herself.
The corner of her eyes lifted at the delicious taste before digging into the piece of pastry and bringing it over to Emma.
Emma accepted the bite.
"Do you like it?" asked Ellie. "Take another bite."
However, before she could insert the fork into the pastry, the piece was lifted by a hand. Ellie's eyes followed the hand in shock only to watch the piece of cake end up in Steven Gu's mouth.
"You—!" she exclaimed in anger.
Licking the cream off of his finger, he commented, "That was delicious indeed."
Ellie's eyes turned fierce. Handing the plate to Emma, she grabbed on to Steven's collars harshly and shook him.
"You, Bastard, how dare you eat that? Spit it out! Emma really liked it! How dare you snatch it from her!?" Ellie exclaimed.
"It doesn't have to be that serious," Emma attempted to interrupt.
Steven leaned closer, bringing his face closer to Ellie's. A mischievous twinkle played in his eyes as the corner of his lips curled.
"What? You want to feed your precious Emma what I spat out?"
That aggravated Ellie further. As she raised her hand, about to smack Steven, Emma noticed how the situation between them escalated. She stepped forward to grab her friend's hand.
"Ellie, I want to try out the pudding. That cake was too sweet anyways," Emma spoke out in an attempt to calm her friend down.
However, before the atmosphere could soothe, Steven extended his hand, wiping the remaining cream on his fingers on Ellie's skirt.
Ellie froze for a second. Her eyes blinked at Steven slowly, trying to process it.
"What did you just do?" she asked.
"Sorry," responded Steven casually, "couldn't find a napkin."
"Let go of me, Emma. I need to teach this bastard a lesson!"
Before Emma could hold her friend back, Ellie snatched the plate from her friend. In the next second, she smashed all the pastries down on Steven's head, earning gasps from all across the room.
Emma placed her hands on her hips, turning to face the other way with a sigh
Although she tried to change the trajectory of her previous life, some things truly remain unchanged.
"You, unruly woman!"
Steven next grabbed the smashed cake from his head and slapped it against Ellie's face. With that, a messy fight broke out between both of them.
When Vanessa came over upon seeing this scene, her eyes widened, and she asked, "What is going on?"
"Vanessa, do me a favor," Emma said.
"What is it?"
"Go over to the back garden," Emma voiced out, "a friend of mine will give me something. Receive it, and bring it over."
Vanessa stared at her in confusion. "What is it?"
Emma's eyes narrowed. "Do I need to provide you with an explanation?"
Vanessa quickly shook her head.
